We run a dye plant and although I have installed an electric softner device, which has coils of cable wrapped around the water pipes in use before the water reaches the boiler and dye tanks, we are still experiencing hard water problems. Do you have any suggestions, like perhaps I should install magnetic water softeners before each dyeing machine, etc?

Have an old Rain Soft water softener - used salt. Plumber has disconnected/capped water lines and system is unplugged from electricity. We are going to remove the entire unit as it hasn't worked in years. Any 'gotchas' to be aware of?

I am trying to figure out a way to remove some scaling in my pipes to increase their flow. I have recently installed a recirculation pump and am thinking of not using the water (live by myself) for a few days and adding vinegar to the pipes and circulate it around for a day or two. Any thought on that process? all pipes are soldered copper and have no leaks.

I believe I need to purchase a water softener for my home. I have a major problem with lime build up, and nothing really works, I can't keep on top of it.

Its all a confidence trick, save your cash.
Magnetic fields have ZERO effect upon water.
If they did , an MRI scan would kill you with a field strength of 2.5 tesla , some hundred times stronger than typical small strong magnet.
An alternating magnetic field will NOT penetrate a copper or steel pipe.
Just suppose water is affected, can it be overdone?.
Why dont the purveyors specify a flow rate ?

Years ago, my parents installed a magnetic softener, before that, we would go through a shower head every month due to clogging, after the magnetic deal, I was shocked, the thing actually worked, the shower head's stopped clogging with lime. At first, I thought, yea right, total scam, the thing cant possibly work, it actually did work..

I was very surprised...so they definately do something...

Our water has a very high lime content.

Hi, I'm a user of a product called Housetron from a company out of England, they've been selling catalytic scale prevention solutions to industrial and commercial customers for years. Anyway, fact is that their unit works. Not magnetic and not what I've heard called a wrap around arrangement. Loads to read at their web site if you're interested:
