Rich,
Yes, there is an adjustment screw. Get out your Owner's Manual and you will discover which way to turn the screw.

We have a metal shop with 10' X 10' doors. Would I need a 3/4 hr opener or would a 1/2 work. One door rolls real eazy and one you have to tug on some.

Tim,

I own a 6 year old Genie screw drive garage door opener. With the drop in temperature, the garage door/opener started making loud noise when opened. When the temperature increased, the noise went away and worked fine. The temps dropped again and the noise returned. It will remain cold for the next couple of months. So I figured it needed to be lubricated. I generously applied garage door opener grease and now the door will not open properly. It moves very slowly up the track and sometimes stops before it is fully open or closed. Any suggestions?

Marc,
Call up a garage-door service company. You may have a serious problem in the early stages.

How to I get my garage door reset to work when I press the button if I had to manually open the door because the electricity was off earlier today?
thanks.

Donna,
You have to pull back on the rope thingy that is hanging from the bracket that connects the door to the track. Look in your owner's manual.

I have an old chamberlain door opener that i have rigged to a 24 inch sizzer jack. I need it to lift the jack all the way up. I removed the limit contacts and thought that would do the trick, but it still stops before the jack is fully extented. I believe the en-coder on the motor shaft is now stopping it. Please tell me how to defeat the en-coder so my prodject will work. The model number of the opener is 1050.

Dear Tim,

I have a garage that is open on two sides. My current opener is a Screw drive Genie that has limit switches? on both ends of the rail. The problem with these switches is that over time the weather in the south (Texas) has a tendenacy to accumulate rust on the contacts and I have to either replace the switch or take some sand paper to them. This has caused a problem with my door stopping upon opening and closing. Just this weekedn the closing switch (door down) went out and caused the magnetic houseing unti to bend and now the door won't go up. I was hoping you could tell me what the best type of opener would be for a garage that is exposed to the weather. Thanks,Nina

Nina,
Call in three installers and see which one will put in writing a solution to your problem. See what openers they say will work in your situation. Verify it with the manufacturer!

Mr Carter:
I have an older Sears garage door opener.
The remote stopped operating. I replaced the battery but to no avail. Sears has no service or repair agent in the area and I have not head back from my internet inquiry. I hope you can provide some hope. What must I do to repair or replace my remote control? What information will I need to provide? The wall control operates just great. I've compared the inside number pads and no matter I can't make the hand held remote work...Any help would be appreciated as I have no many resources...

Mr. Carter, I had to let you know that I went to the Sears.com website that you recommended to Steve and found a new opener that looks very much like the one I have. Thank you! I will attempt to purchase just a remote control from Sears-- armed with the information I now have.
Thank you again.
You provide a wonderful service, especially to those of us with limited resources.
Have a GREAT day!

Okies Kid,
The remote may be broken beyond repair. A circuit inside may be fried. The remote is just a radio..... that may have a broken transistor or capacitor or resistor......

Okies Kid,
Sweet!!!!! From your first comment I assumed you had already done this and were at the end of your rope. Congrats to you on not giving up! Let us all know if the new opener is compatible once you get it.

Hi,
I was cleaning out my garage the other day and since then the remote controls in either of our cars don't work, yet the garage door opener works from the wall button (which has a light inside of the button that has been blinking continuously). One of the sensors along the floor has a light that goes off when you place your hand in front of it, the other's light does not go out when you move your hand in front of it. I tried to fiddle around with it to no avail. Perhaps I jostled it when cleaning out the garage in the first place, but don't know what to do to get it back working properly. Any advice? Thanks,
Jill

I have an old style 1 piece 7'x16' garage door with a genie IS550 opener. The screwdrive rail is nearly 9 1/2' long. What new opener is similar that will work? Thanks in advance, Duane
