Thank You for clarifying to some of the public on how in depth drywall
finishing can be. I have been doing drywall for 23yrs and still to this day
learn something new from other finishers who have been doing the trade
longer. The one thing i would like to convey to the public is:
when a home-owner decides to give drywall in their own home a shot, don't understand why a finisher will charge more if the owner has tried and now has hendered the job at hand.
thank you
Jay

A friend is trying to finish out a piece of drywall in he installed over a
closed off doorway inside a closet. He did not get enough mud under the
tape to embed it properly and it is not sticking in some areas. Should he
completely remove the tape and start over or use a wall liner paper to get
a smooth wall surface?

pin holes are caused by mud being to thick. add some water to it, and apply
thin coats

Jerry ive been a drywall finisher for 6 years. the pin holes you are
refering to I call craters. They appear when you coat over a painted
surface. try a few more tight coats with Hamiltons light weight compuond.
or if you dont want to wait for coats to dry. fill the holes with hot mud
or smooth set as its called in the stores. rember to apply one coat of
joint compound over smooth set coat so you can sand where needed. good
luck.
