Summary: Asphalt sealing will be successful only if you prepare the driveway
first. Cleaning and patching asphalt cracks are the first steps. High
quality asphalt sealers are the finishing touch.

Just wondering, how does colored sealer age? What would that red driveway
look like in a year, and what effect does weathering and age have on it?

Matt,
That is the same product used on tennis courts. Look at any in your area to
see how they age.

Don,
The homeowner does not know, but I know for a fact that it is a sealer used
on tennis courts as I know the contractor who applied it. What did you
learn from Google when you searched for "colored tennis court sealers"?

I only contacted a few tennis court contractors. I was looking to buy a
product that I could do myself. I thought SealMaster would have what I
want but the color in the catalogue was too dark for brick red. The
picture you have in your article is the perfect red I am looking for. I
put red pavers in the center and ends of my driveway and want to seal the
rest of the driveway with a red sealer. I see they have the right colors
for concrete.

my driveway was coated with a topping that looks unlike a normal coating.
Its grey ,not your normal sealer. It now needs to be resealed and i am
unable to find what sealer to use. I am unable to contact the previous
owner to find out what he used .It is grey with what looks like flakes of
white mixed in .Can you make any suggestions on what to use?

Is there a difference in quality between hiring a professional sealer and
buying a top quality sealer from a hardware store and applying it myself? I
want to save the money by doing it myself but am afraid that it will not be
a smart choice if the quality is markedly less.

Hi-
I have a sealer delima.
We had our driveway sealed with the tar type of sealer. The man sprayed it
on.
It looked fine for a couple weeks then several spots turned a brown hue.
He came back and resprayed the drive way again but with a lighter coat.
Again it looked good for a couple weeks then even more brown spots allover
and large areas that look like nothing was done.
He sprayed another persons driveway with the same batch as our second coat
and their driveway is fine.
He said he never had any problems like this before and is unsure why it is
happening. He stated that all he can figure is the person who sealed it
previously used a water base sealer whereas he uses an oil based-- and oil/
water do not mix..I said even though it was sealed with it 9-10 years
ago?!!
He said he does not cut the mixture by adding gas or mineral spirits etc.
Our drive way is about 12 years old and the previous owner only resealed it
once since it was laid.
He came back today and resprayed it but only a misting to try and even out
the color. He said that is pretty much all he can do.
So while we wait and see if it stays a uniform color.....
Have you ever ran across anyone else with this problem??
Thanks,
Donna
