Summary: Matching brick for a room addition may be close to impossible. Look for
color over texture if your brick is discontinued. From a distance no
one will notice a different brick texture but color differences will be
seen a mile off.

I have new red bricks that I want to make a walkway that matches the reused
brick on the front of my house. Is there any way to treat the new bricks
to make them look old with black and white blotches etc on them. Thanks,

Larryann,
You might try whitewashing them. Read my past columns about that.

I would argue that if you are really keen on getting a close match, you
should choose texture over colour and get a company who specialises in
brickwork makeovers to make the final colour adjustment. Brick Image Ltd
for example use non toxic, permanent masonry dyes to achieve a very natural
result. The website is http://www.brickimage.co.uk/services.htm
