I thought the site thoroughly explained the issues associated with installing a recessed medicine cabinet. It listed the possible obstacles that may exist behind the drywall and therefore may delay what may seem to be an easy installation. Thank you!!

The medicine cabinets in my condo are recessed, old, dated and well used. I would like to replace them with another recessed cabinet but am having trouble finding ones that are the same size:
13 5/8 X 18 3/4. Any ideas where I can look? Thanks for your help.

Jane,
As crazy as this sounds, as I scrolled down this page to read your post, I saw four different ads for companies that said they sold medicine cabinets. If that doesn't work, then I would go to Google and type in "recessed medicine cabinets".

Jane,
Ask at your local home improvement warehouse - they should have a few models that say the "rough-in" size is 14 x 18 inches. Most or all of those will fit the existing hole.

I installed a recessed medicine cabinet from a company that also makes other types of recessed cabinets. Once I realized how easy this was to do I was hooked! I then installed a Large Bathroom Display Cabinet.
The hole cut width is the same as the medicine cabinet, designed to fit between standard 16" on center wall studs but it is 60" high. And matched the medicine cabinet perfectly.
After that I was like...omg. Where can I put another one of these. I ended up installing a Recessed Ironing Board in My Master suite Closet for touching up. And Recessed In Wall Spice Rack.
I love these in wall cabinets. And they are so easy the job makes even all thumbs me look like a pro.

I have a sliding glass mirror over a double sink in my bathroom. Behind the mirror is a recessed, door-less, metal medicine cabinet. I would like to add another one next to it, but I can't locate any. They all seem to come with doors and mirrors. I just want the shell to insert between studs.

Help!

I would love to know where the wood-framed medicine cabinet in the picture was purchased, it is exactly what I'm looking for

Bob,
I will sell it to you...... It is about to be removed in six weeks. Make me an offer I can't refuse keeping in mind the hassle of trying to pack it so there is no damage in shipment.....

Tim Carter

So please I found your website. I have been searching websites in vain for months and have yet found a solution to my probem. I am in search for a medicine cabinet to replace my present one that measures recessed 22-1/4" x 16-1/2". Just replaced a vanity that is cherry wood.

Any recommendations you may have would be most appreciated.
sincerely. Fred Lecomte

Tim, we have a beautiful recessed medicine cabinet from Kohler. It's mirrored all the way around (no frame). We only installed it about 4 years ago...and within the first year, the mirror finish started flaking off on the bottom edge of the doors where you pull them open. Is this common? Should that happen? It's now so bad and unsightly that we need to replace the entire cabinet.

I am putting up a 4.5 inch deep medicine cabinet. I'm having trouble finding a light fixture that extends much beyond 5 inches. What do you suggest? If I have a light fixture where the center of the bulb comes out 5 inches how high do I have to mount it on the wall above the medicine cabinet to make sure I have light. Would it be better to get a fixture where the shades are pointed up or down? Thanks. I'm stuck.

This article glided right over my question of what to do when the recessed area contains electrical cables and/or support beams. Everything that is said was already obvious. Where is the beef?

I have a recessed medicine cabinet, but I would actually want to remove it. How do you repair the hole from the cabinet?

I have a medicine cabint that is very much like the one pictured. It is recessed, and the hole is
25 5/8" X 16 1+2" x 4 1+2" deep. I would like to replace it but cannot find any that size. Virtually all the "newer" styles are more vertical than horizontal. Do you know where I might find one? I have searched numerous sites and have yet to find one that comes even close to the size I need. Thanks.

I have a double sliding glass mirror over a sink in my bathroom. Behind the right mirror is recessed shelves. I would like to add another set of shelves behind the left mirror but I can't locate any. I just need the inside shell to insert between studs. Where can I find this. There is no indication who manufactured this recessed cabinet. Thank you.

Where can you get replacement shelves for a perfectly good medicine cabinet.
The shelves installed are a corrugated plastic and are breaking.

I have a mirror I like and would like to use it as the door to a recessed medicine cabinet. All I need is the medicine cabinet insert but I can't find a "doorless" insert. It'll be too costly for me to purchase and remove the unwanted doors. The mirror and frame are approx. 23 H x 19 W. Do you know where I can purchase the insert alone or any other suggestions?

Hello,

Can a medicine cabinet be recessed in an exterior wall of my bathroom. There are no studs in the way or electrical or plumbing but there is insulation and a vapor barrier.
Is it a bad idea to install a recessed cabinet in an exterior wall. I don't like the surface mount ones cause they stick out to far.
Suggestions and advice would be appreciated.

Has anyone seen a mirrored medicine cabinet that is 60 inches wide??? We have a double vanity, but there is NO storage in the cabinet the builder put in our home. We want to replace the 60" mirror with a medicine cabinet, but 48" wide is the largest I am finding. I just think that is going to be way too narrow since the cabinet is about 62" across.

I too am looking for a cabinet exactly like the wood-framed one in the picture. Since I am sure you sold it to Bob a year ago, could you tell me if you know where to get any like it? I am looking for one at least 40 inches long.

I recently purchased a recessed medicine cabinet online. The manufacturer advertised it to fit a wall cut out of 14" wide x 24"high x 4" deep; these are the exact dimensions of my wall opening. It finally arrived and it doesn't fit into the wall opening. It is 1/8" to high. Can I make the opening bigger? How? Thanks

I am trying to purchase a recessed medicine cabinet to replace the one I have its 18 x 24. Can't find at the local Home Stores. Any suggestions? My mirrored door came off the top hinge and fell onto the sink. Need to replace entire cabinet now.
