I have replaced the cartridge for our shower faucet it seems to all be installed correctly but when the handle is up in the on position water sprays out on the sides, when I put the handle down into the off position it stops & no water comes out, which is right. So my question is how do i get the water to stop spraying out the sides when the water is on & running?

Kristi,
I don't think you have it in correctly. What's more, something tells me you might have the wrong part.

I am helping a friend replace their Roman faucet on their garden tub. I am having trouble trying to take the old one off. What is the secret? I found a plug towards the bottom of the faucet and it loooks like you may need a hex wrench but with my eye sight it is difficult to tell. Please help.

Noel,
You may need a basin wrench. Watch my video about installing a Kitchen Faucet. It will make sense. Do everything I show, but only backwards.

Hi, I am a forty five year old female tackling my first bathroom remodel! So far, all fixtures went up with ease, until I got to the hot/cold controller for the tub. The "helper" at the home improvement store said that I should use a universal replacement, which I did, but the pipe that protrudes from the wall looks nothing like the apperatice that came with the kit! It is the same type of single handle controller with a large back plate. Do I need to cut a larger hole in the wall so that I can switch out the behind the wall piping? I need to make this work, because I have already installed the tub faucet, and shower head, and new drain! Thank you. Dale

Dale,
I'm sorry, but I can't develop a picture in my head of what you are describing. Take a photo of the situation and go to a real plumbing supply house, not a home center.

I want to replace just the handles on my tub and shower. Can I replace just the handles (knobs)and shower head without going into the plumbing?

I have a single handle tub and shower faucet. When I lift the diverter on the tub spout, water comes out both the shower head and tub spout leaving little water pressure for the shower. How can I fix this?

Laura,
The answer is maybe. For example, if it was a newer Moen faucet the answer is Yes. They have a system where the faucet bodies work with any of the trim kits. Very clever!

Mary,
Remove the tub spout and soak it in warm white vinegar for 24 hours.

I can't find a "shower only" handle set I like. Can I purchase a full set and simply not use the tub spout???? Forgive a silly question! Thanks

hello! I just added a shower stall to my bathroom in the basement, although I was advise not to in-case of future drainage problems, I have a lasco 3-section stall, the only thing I dislike about my stall the fact that I had to make a plaster base

but I was curious on the life span of this plaster the walls are pretty snugged against the unit their no movement but over time will the plaster eventually give way?

when I install the base to the drain pipe which I have a vent pipe for and a access drain for auging(king drain) or snaking..... i did not bond the shower drain to the two inch pipe in case of future problem because being as tho it's in the basment thier isn't any clearance to reach the pipe and cut on a concert floor i tested the drain with a water hose for 20 min no base leak then a couple bucket of hot water no leaks i used two rubber gasket and grit gasket plumber puddy, do you see any future problems with not bonding that pipe together....

other question what shower only faucet full kit(not trim kit) 200 and under could you recommend if any

Rachel,
That is a great question, not silly at all. You can do that. You simply cap off the water line that would have turned out of the wall for the tub spout.

David,
The plaster will fail in time. It is not made to get wet repeatedly.

i think i might have made some confusion the plaster is reinforcing my fiberglass base to the lasco 3 part unit so as long a the drain does not leak it should not get wet also the framing reinforce the unit from any movement but i'm afaird over time that the plaster(paris plaster) might give way or crack, i was wondering is thier a life span on plaster,

also can you advise me on a good shower only faucet kit(not trim kit) for 200 and under

David,
If kept dry, the plaster has an unlimited life span. You should be able to get a decent Moen faucet or a Delta.

Tim, My tub has accessible piping from the unfinished area in the eaves of our cape cod. It has a knob to divert water from tub to shower but there is no showerhead. I need to install the shower head. How do I do this?

Then - I need to make the drywall waterproof/mildew resistant. Do I need to take the drywall around the tub out and replace with cement board? Or can I paint the drywall with a waterproofing primer? Which is best? latex, oil or enamel?

I have stripped pipe threads on a garden tub that has hidden shut off valves behind tile. No other wall to access from. My question is if I replace the entire faucet system, where can I find info on how best to create an access thru tile and wall board? Plumbers charge $650 and don't do the access and repair of tile & wall board.

I rent a Condo, and would like to repair the Shower/Tub Faucet without involving the owner. It is a Three Handle Faucet. The Left is Hot, Center is the Tub Flow and Right is Cold. The necks are metal and the knobs are plastic, so I am sure the problem was rust. The center knob completley broke off, so I am unable to have water come out of the tub spout. I use the Hot and Cold Knobs to turn on the shower, however the Cold Knob rusted and just spins rather than turn on the cold. I use a philips screw driver to turn on the cold. The screw is becoming stripped and increasingly difficult to turn on. Would a store like Lowe's be able to assist, or would I need to involve a plumber or handyman? I don't trust people to tell me the right information, so I don't want to call out one of the three and have them charge me, then tell me I need to contact someone else. From the above information it sounds like you are the right person to ask. I greatly appreciate any information you may provide that will assist in the completion of this issue. I would really love to be able to take a shower without spending 10 minutes just to turn it on or off =) Thanks so much for your time!!

My bathtub has a one handle fixture that you turn upward for hot water and downward for cold and off. There is also a knob that you pull up to have water come from the shower head. The problem I have is the water from the shower head is low and more water is coming from the faucet. How can I fix this so when I pull the knob up water will come from the shower head only and not from the faucet.

Thank you.

Hi,

We remodeled our bathroom and went from two handle compression tub faucets to one handle. We now seem to be getting little to no pressure for the cold water. Everything is in properly and works properly, we just have to take very hot showers because the cold water just can't get there. The cold valve is all the way open. Can a bad valve cause pressure problems? Both shut off valves are new, but maybe the cold one is bad? Help!!

Hi,

On my bathtub faucet, the small part that is lifted to redirect water from the faucet to the shower does not work.

How can I fix this?

Thanks,

Can CPVC pipe be used with brass?? joints? This combination was used on our new tub install, and the joints leaked. We had to bust out tile to repair. New plumber said this combination sweats, and will always cause problems, so the repair was done with copper materials.

Thanks

I have a jacuzzi tub and faucet that is about 25 years old. I need to replace the faucet. However, it is square and flat and sits on the inside of the tub. Water flows from the bottom of this square contraption. Do I have to try and find a faucet that is like this one or can I replace it with a more conventional faucet?

We just replaced the faucet on my roman tub. The handles were on the opposite side from the faucet, so I wanted it to be a single handle faucet. The only one I could find was a price pfister for the lavatory. I installed it in the tub but didn't think about the flow restrictor. Is there any way to bypass the flow restrictor? It takes way too long to fill!
