Looking for diagram or picture that shows rough in ABS pipe installation in
new concrete slab that is not poured yet. Trying to accomadate a toilet and
vanity. What size pipe do I need coming up for the toilet? 3" or 4"
the top of the pipe should be flush with slab or recessed?
Is there some type of flange that should go in the concrete?
Is there a software program that allows one to put together computer
generated rough-in drain line system? Realistically all I need is the
dranage system and don't need all the bells and whistles that I find in
most CAD facility software.
Thank you in advance for your help with this...
I had a problem the other day. Let me start by saying that I have a new
house. My upstairs bathroom toilet was clogged so, when I unclogged it I
went downstairs. About 2 min. later, water started to come out of my
ceiling fan. What's going on? It wasn't fresh water but drainage water. Did
I plunge to hard or what? Is it possible that I plunged so hard that some
water came out of some vent or something. I don't know anything about
plumbing. My upstairs toilet is almost right above my ceiling fan if this
helps you out.
I am remodeling the basement and putting in a bathroom sink that is 4' away
from an existing 4" stack pipe. I am using 3 90 degree elbows to get there.
Does the 1-1/2" pvc plumbing need to be installed at a slight angle to
allow for better drainage?

My husband and I are building a new home in the future. I would like to
start buying some bathroom tub and sink faucets when I see ones that I
like. My question is....Do we need to buy the "rough-in" also, or will the
plumber have this to install (if so will his rough-in be cheaper?)

We recently noticed a sewer odor after remodling our bathroom. If I close
the bathroom drain it is gone. We have several things for the same drain
and a 6-8" round dome cap. Could we have turned this somehow. It is hard to
get to, but not impossible. thanks, E. Monnot

Hello, I have an old house that is getting it's first plumbing. I am OK
with the pressurized as I have done this before. I am concerned wuth the
drain plumbing lay out. Is there someone, or some service that would help
with the layout of something like this?I am doing a kitchen, 1 bath and a
washing machine and a water heater. They are all very close to each other.
Any direction would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have two bathrooms that have a toilet in each that set back to back with
only a wall separating them. both are bottom discharge toilets.I want to
remodel an install two rear discharge toilets. I need a typical diagram of
the possibibily for installing these units. Thanks
Dear Tim,
I am adding a bathroom in the basement. I can use the diagram in your
article for my work. Mine vertical stack is 3" which is tied to a 4"
horizontal drain (via a 90 degree joint) under the concrete slab. Is this
OK if I tie the bathroom branch line at this joint horizontally using a Y?
Also as shown in your diagram you seem to use one vent for both the sink
and toilet. Why is the pipe size increased from 1.5" to 3" after the sink
P-trap? Thanks a lot.
I have a builder installed rough plumbed bathroom with a concrete floor.
There appears not to be room for a P-pipe for the shower. What is a
solution ?

Above my bathroom will be a new bathroom. It now has roughed in piping for
the toilet just above the other bathroom toilet. I want to move the toilet
(it's not installed yet) to a different part of the new bathroom. Can the
pipes run horizontal across the floor then downstairs? Would that cause
more clogs? What other ideas are there?

the vent pipe you have is 3" going through roof... you also have a 1 1/2"
pipe just below connecting to that same pipe (vertically)... It should be a
3" going all the way up without a 1 1/2" "reduced" vent pipe as you can
only use a 1 1/2" vent pipe on a single fixture only and your drawing shows
it being used with multiply fixtures using or being forced to use that 1
1/2" vent to 3" vent... just change that to show 3" and not 1 1/2"...
kaikai113atgmail
To the lady who wanted to purchase the "rough-in"... that was the cutest
thing I have read in a while... The rough-in is work that is performed, it
can be electrical rough-in, plumbing rough-in, etc... but is is not
something you purchase at the store with the fixtures...
Kaikai at gmail if you want some limited free advice. But, a licensed
plumber can do the rough-in for you.

Tim, Can i rough in under slab starting with 3" vent ell/3" vtr to 3x1.5
wye on hrz. to tub trap then 3" wye on hrz. to 1/8 bend to ell up for
wc,next 3x2 wye on hrz. for floor drn.,next 3x2 sant. tee on vert. for
stand pipe,3x2 sant. tee on vert. for lavatory lastly apx. 11' further down
stream 3x1.5 sant. tee vert. thru block wall to center and up for kitchen
sink and vtr. All on 1/4" per foot slope out thru wall ending with a 3x4
red. to 4" main clean out turned up with a wye and 1/8 bend to clean out,
outside the house. All being 17" deep allowing for 4" slab, staying 3"
below bottom of slab.I wasnt sure about the 3" vent at the end of the run,
if this was ok? Total distance from 3"vent ell to lav. being about 5' for
circuit venting back to 3".

I don't know what code your drawing refers too but it's is really
incorrect. You will not need a new 3" vent through the roof to vent a three
piece fixture group. 1 1'2" is all it needs. Also, what's with the 3" drain
line up stream of the water closet, then reducing back to 1 1/2"? To pick
up the lavatory and tub a 2" drain line will be more then enough to service
those two fixtures. Also, you need to mark the distances your branches are
running. If your tub line is within 8' of the lavatory you won't need to
back vent the tub. If I were the inspector, I'd sure would think this
drawing was submitted my o homeowner, not a master plumber

After looking at your skecth above i do not see a vent (normally 2") for
your toilet. Is it not required in your town?

I replaced a toilet in a downstairs bath about 5 yrs. ago. It is plumbed
between a tub/shower & sink (which have given me no poroblem in drainage
when the toilet gets clogged, that leaves me to believe it is a internal
toilet problem). It is a handicapped toilet (sits higher). Within the
last 18 mos., I have had problems with the toilet becoming clogged. I have
tried plunging, bleach, Liquid Plummer, & have had 3 plumbers out to open
the toilet. The last plumber, pulled the toilet & found nothing to cause
the clog, stated that the toilet had a bad mold from the factory (the
"throat" on the toilet did not flare as it should. When the toilet was
pulled (finding nothing to cause the clog) I took note of the design of the
"throat". It appeared to be a straight ceramic tube from the toilet trap).
Is the "throat" supposed to be flared or did the plumber misdiagnose the
problem. I do not want to repace the toilet, if the problem lies in
another direction. I have a septic system, but the system is not the
problem. Any suggestions?
I am moving my washer over to a drain that leds to an upstairs bathroom,
we are having trouble finding a plastic pvs pipe 3 1/2 inches to complete
the plumbing for the washer hose. any ideas?

I have reciently had a new subfloor installed in our back bathroom and I
will install a new toilet and sink. My question is: the new subfloor does
not support the cast rion toilet flange and so the flange to the pipe is

flange so it supports the toilet flange?

I'm a master plumber here in New Jersey. Same goes for NJ. If you own the
home and intend to live there you can do your own plumbing. I must say
though, that after reading some of the questions here I can understand why
some area's don't allow homeowners to do their own plumbing.

I have 2 washing machines side by side and I'm starting to smell sewer gas
coming out of the drains -they both have seperate drains but not sure how
they are vented. I'm about to open the wall and see what's going on but I'm
wondering how should they be vented correctly because the builders of this
place were ????????? not too bright from what I have seen so far.
