I had this happen when I was finishing a new shower stall. The plumber
dropped something and put a hole in a soap dish. He didn't even leave a
note but left it for me to discover, so I wasn't a happy customer.
I was able to replace the dish by carefully chipping out the old one, but
it was not a good thing. I was able to get an exact replacement because it
had been recently done. You might want to stockpile a spare dish if you
are retiling a shower in case this happens in your future. I am.
Memo to all: Might want to wrap your tiled-in soap dishes with foam before
beginning repairs that might result in accidentally dropping something
heavy on them! They are very thin and not as sturdy as tile.

Thanks for the info. My soapdish fell off the ceramic tile. The tile had
been abraded but it still didn't stick after a 3 year use.
