Certified Replacement Windows

By Tim Carter
©1993-2008 Tim Carter
Summary: Check for quality of replacement windows by their labels that certify standards created by the AMA and NWWDA, as well a possible energy star rating. Vinyl replacement windows that pass the AAMA/NWWDA standard are above average windows. Energy star certification shows energy savings, and usually exceeds most building codes, while the NFRC standards also measure energy efficiency. Check this list of manufacturers for the "seals of approval" they carry.

Where can I find similar aluminum thermal barrier horizontal sliding glass windows that Binnings Building Products used to make before they were acquired?

I am trying to match some that now need to be replaced. They are brown aluminum, double glazed, low-e, and '48 x '48. Ugly but its what the customer wants. Will be inserted over T1-11 siding.

Please in advance and please advise,
Sam

Have 23 Double Hung windows from Binnings Co. -"Liberty Klad" . purchased in Jan. 1992 for my new home consruction. The Plastic glides/tracks/thingies that must be depressed to allow the window to be pulled inward and removed for washing, etc. have split from normal use during 16 years. These plastic components are expendable, but I am unable to locate a parts supplier for my triple, double, single windows as nos. 2846,28310, 18310, 2032,2046.
PGT suggested Stybuc ( waiting for response), Blaine windows ( no response to e-mail), and Davidson Sash & Door ( no help).
I need both parts and service. Can you help me?
