Summary: A vapor barrier is essential to stop water vapor from the soil from penetrating through your basement and crawl floors and walls. Vapor barriers of polyethylene have been used as a vapor retarder for some years now, but it has limitations. Newer high performance, high density polyethylene sheeting is the key to stopping water vapor from finding its new home in your wood floors, insulation, or carpeting.

Could you please tell me where I can find this high quality material to use
as a vapor barrier in my crawl spaces. I have 3 additions on my old home
that have dirt floors. The insulation that is stapled below the kitchen
floor has black mold that I have to remove. The sides are made of stone. I
have to do the work myself....do you cut the barrier even with the edge of
the dirt floor? I am unclear as how to do the job. I also don't know what
to do with the stone walls......I Would appreciate any information that you
could give me.
