Hello Tim:

I live in Toronto, Canada.

City upgraded my water supply line from street main to my curb shut off to 3/4 copper tubing.
From city curb to my house I still have old galvanized supply pipe. In your articles you recommend 1 inch copper as a main house supply line.

Should I upgrade my old galvanized supply pipe to 1 inch or 3/4 copper?

I am thinking because I have 3/4 to my property line - should I install 3/4 to my house as well?

Or 1 inch is better - would I loose pressure if I use 3/4 -> 1 inch?

Regards,

Vladimir

i am in the planing stages of our retirement home. it's in the mountiains of colorado and we are wondering about the water lines. we will be tapping into a central water system and the water line to our builing site is approx 1/4 mile with an up hill slope of 20 ft. i'm thinking of pvc. you mentioned 3/4" copper. i'm leaning toward 1" also the depth if it's placement? do you know of coiled plastic pipe that would eliminate the joints? thanks for any help.

I have 3/4" pvc pipe running from the meter to my house. We're in the process of building a new house close to our previous home. My question is:

Can I branch off the 3/4" pipe with 1" pipe and run it another 200 ft. without losing pressure? Or should I stick with the 3/4"?

I'm asking because I am 1/2 a mile from our meter and I do NOT wish to replace the whole line with 1" pipe if I can help it. The meter comes off with 3/4" so that is why we ran it with that in the first place.

Thanks for any help,
Brandon

Please I need help. I have a contractor who is trying to get over every chance he gets. Is it legal to install a poly plastic pipe from the curbbox in the street to the house? My water department is requiring that he install a Type K pipe instead no exception.

CJ: as close as you need to get gas to it. Look at your neighbors closeness.

Leslie: Pex waterlines are awesome. Their cheaper, installation is easier and their red and blue so their easily identifiable.

Vlad: Stay with 3/4" increasing your size to 1" is of no benefit when you'll never get more then a 3/4" flow from the city.
Yes, you'll loose pressure.

Mark M: Us the same material as the city is using until it gets to your house. A 1/4 mile of anything is expensive.

Brandon Phillips: Stay with 3/4" or you'll be asking for trouble. You did the right thing, leave it alone.

Allen Riffe: What is the slope of the hill? Will the fixtures have aerators installed or free flowing?

Aqueelah: The water department can cut your water off. If the contractor is not willing to truck-in water when they cut you off then tell him to comply with their demands. They control the water.

indra: Will you open just one faucet or all 500 at the same time? What is the delivery pipe sizes?

ISI: Providing the information you need to someone who can't spell "story", "difference", "distance", "diameter" would be too risky and dangerous. Call a professional.

Thanks for the information. My home is very old and has a relatively simple system-meter (front of house) to water heater to two baths, kitchen and outdoor spigots (back of house).
1. Can I upgrade to 1" and then branch off with 1/2" (without a 3/4" level)?
2. If my service from the street isn't 2" will upgrading to 1" in the home increase pressure?

What size and kind of line would you recommend to run 1500' to a 3 bath house. Very little elevation change and believe it's 3/4" at the meter. Thx

Hi Tim
I have a 58yr old house that had 1/2" steel plumbing, partially up-dated to copper. I tore it all out and went 3/4" copper all the way, hot and cold, except for the individual outlets that reduce to 1/2" each.
I find that the overall pressure has "dropped", most noticeably at the shower.
I even went with expensive "full-flow" valves to prevent this. What happened?
Is there an explanation for this??
Thanks

Can two houses share the same water line. I bought this house and was not disclosed that the water line was shared. If the other house flushed their toilet or wash clothes my water pressure bottoms out. my house is the original house on the two properties they use to own this house and tapped into the main water line my house age 100 years (Ontario Canada)

I'm putting a drive way in for a motorhome along the side of my house. Just bought the home and our nighbor is not happy about me parking a MH next on our property. there is a 7' fence and our motor home ios ony 9' high. While putting the drive + pad in my contractor hit a water line going to my nighbors. The line runs from his water meter, on his property, over toward my curbside meter then tees off back under the fence to the corner of his house to his shut-off at his house. It runs about 30' through my property and it was only about 8" down. My house water, from my meter is about 20-22" beneath. My neighbor says I should pay to fix the brake as the waster line has been there for 30 years. This, however, looks like a repair to me, and there is naother tee off his line, on my side that runs back to his side as a water source for his front year sprinklers. He claims it has been that way all along and had no knowlege of the water line being on our property. So, is he right, do I have to pay for the repair? Or am I responsible for putting his water line back to his property? He seems to think I am. I'm new to the nighborhood and would like to be a good neighbor but don't want to be run over either. What say you? Thanks, Dan

i am taking 2 water connections for my house. one for my self and one for my tenants.

i am in india. my question is, what should the minimum distance be, between the 2 lines drawn to the storage tank from the supply lines so that the water that comes is not reduced / shared instead of getting double the water i am getting currently.

Also, if the minimum distance is 1 meter for example, what will happen if the minimum distance between the 2 tapping bands is less than 1 meter? will it reduce the water coming to my house or increase the water coming to my house?

please provide a quick reply. if i get a reply by a couple of hours it will be very very very great of you.

thanks

My house is U shaped. the main comes in at the middle of the house and then Tee's to each end.but the Hot water line goes to the boiler on the one side of the house then goes back to the other end which about 60 ft. what is the best way to run my main to the boiler and to each end of the house.
