I must be going blind, in my old age (at least "vision challenged")
Because ...
On that saw, I did not see any cover, splitter, anti-kickback pawls or even
a riving knife.
I know, I know ... we all pull these off and, typically, throw them away.
I know that I have been guilty of that.
However, a few years back I had a nasty kickback while ripping some two-by
stock.
A rather long, very knot-filled chunk of lumber came back and hit me in my
sternum. Enough to do some damage. Fortunately, it was not my head.
I hate pawls and close to forty years of running a saw ... I tend to trust
my eye ... so no stinkin' cover.
But, NOW all of my table saws have riving knifes installed. For
"contractor" or portable bench-type saws, the splitter can readily be
converted to a riving knife ... just a little snipping, filing, etc.
Trust me, do not continue to use a table saw without, at the minimum, some
type of splitter.
