Okay, you've got a project starting soon and you want to establish a level line
0:10
in a room. Perhaps you want to put up crown molding. Maybe you want to put in a
0:14
suspended ceiling and you want it to be perfectly level. Well, how are you going to do that
0:18
A lot of times I see people take a four foot level and they work their way around the room
0:22
and generally when they get back to where they started they're off by a quarter or a half an inch
0:26
It drives you crazy. I know people have told you you can use one of those water levels or some other way
0:32
Here's the way I'd like to see you go. Why not rent a builder's transit or a level
0:37
They're available at most tool rental places. They're easy to set up. You've seen them
0:41
They've got a tripod and they've got a really neat little instrument on top
0:45
It's got a great little bubble level that you level in two directions. And once you get the level set up and established
0:51
it rotates 360 degrees all the way around the room, and it allows you to look through the instrument
0:57
You can focus it, and it's got a neat crosshair. It's just like a periscope on a submarine
1:01
And that crosshair gives you an exact level line all the way around the room
1:06
So what do you do? You make marks, little pencil marks, on the walls at the different points
1:10
And then you can measure up or down from that line to establish the level line that you need for that suspended ceiling or the chair rail
1:19
Remember, you're going to need two people to do this project. Someone's going to have to be using the transit, and someone's going to have to be on the wall holding a pencil
1:26
to make the marks where you tell them to. It's an easy job to do. It doesn't cost very
1:31
much and remember they're available at almost any tool rental place in the Tri-State area
