Oh, I've made a lot of progress. I'm really happy because moving this drain line is now going to be really, really easy
0:18
Come here, I'm going to show you what I'm talking about. Look at this. Okay, I used, you know, a big hammer, just like that, and I just started to chip away and make a little hole, and I just kept getting bigger and bigger
0:33
And remember, we knew that the heating lines are over here, so it was safe to go ahead and work in this area
0:41
And one of the things I did is I initially started out with some water, and I was keeping the dust down by using this water
0:50
but I also had some water in this bowl and once I had a little hole I poured water into the hole
0:57
you know just to keep the dust down so here's what I found out so the slab is about three inches
1:04
thick and then they did the right thing they put two inches of styrofoam this is closed cell
1:10
styrofoam on top of gravel fill this gravel on here they had gravel underneath
1:18
and here's the good news so here's the drain pipe leaving the shower it goes
1:24
straight down and you might be able to see in the hole here there's a 90 degree
1:29
they they made their own trap they didn't use a regulation one but anyway
1:33
the pipe comes up and the drain pipe is right here where my hand is so all I
1:39
need to do is take out a little bit more concrete over here and then over here
1:46
you can see this X I did some calculations I know how big my shower base is going to be I know where it going to go We going to show that in another video once we get some things out of the way But just roughly I wanted to know where I had to work to
2:01
And it's right here. So I just have to take out, you know, concrete, a strip about like this, over to here, and I'm basically done
2:13
done. Now I just have to be really careful right in here, right about in this area, is where that
2:18
one heating pipe showed on the thermal image. So we've got to be really careful working around here
2:24
And I may do that with just a hammer, a hand hammer and a chisel going really slow. Okay
2:30
we're going to have this plumbing wrapped in. It's not too much longer. I would say maybe I've
2:35
got another hour, hour and a half max in getting the concrete out of the way. And it's not
2:43
going to take too long to rough this in. So the next video what we're going to show is
2:48
I'll show you exactly how I got this rough in dimension. Generally when you buy your
2:54
shower base, it comes with plans. It comes with install instructions. And on the install
2:59
instructions they have a little diagram that kind of gives you the rough end and you have
3:05
to be pretty precise but I always like to have the shower base there and double check
3:10
the measurements because let me tell you it's really you know you don't have much of a tolerance
3:15
maybe an eighth of an inch if you make a mistake so we'll show that in the next video exactly
3:19
how to figure out where the drain pipe is going to go. I'm Tim Carter for askthebuilder.com
