I just made it back here a little bit ago. I had a last-minute adventure this afternoon

down along the Pemi-Jewasett River in New Hampshire, central New Hampshire. Beautiful

Beautiful spot. Wow. I went out to do ham radio with my mentor, my outdoor radio mentor, Jim Cluitt

And we had a spectacular time. It was a wonderful day here. I, sunny. I don't know, I don't know that it made it to 50

It was a little chilly, but it was a nice day. Oh, hey, how you doing

Oh, well, thanks very much. History is kind of my, it's kind of a side hobby

I really enjoy history. I mean the trouble is sometimes we don get here what you need to remember about history You know the winners write history not the losers All right So in many respects we you know we have a kind of a distorted view of history

Some of the best history, as long as you can still find it, if they're not scrubbing it out of the libraries

A lot of people don't know this about history. We're going to be talking about plumbing vent flashings in just a minute

Back in the days when they were real journalists, you know, I'm a syndicated newspaper columnist, so I'm part of the working press

But unfortunately, my profession has just gone down the toilet. I mean, there aren't many really good journalists left, you know, ethical, honest

But back in the day, go back 100, 150 years ago, even 200 years ago when newspapers were being printed

newspaper reporters, they were the first, they're the first level historians because good reporting

in other words, if the reporters were doing their job, they were curating what happened

And so if you really want to get an idea of what happened in the last 150 years you got to go sift through old newspapers That where you have to go Sugar I know I just saw the S you know I didn bother to look at the full acronym

So I'm sorry about that. Anyway, crutch word, crutch word. That's one of my crutch words

Anyway, you say a crutch word when your mouth has gotten a little ahead of your brain

Here's what we're going to talk a little bit about today for sure

I've been on the phone with her about her car situation. She got psychologically raped and abused on Monday by two Honda dealers, one in Long Beach, California, and one nearby

Horrible, bitter experience. So now I'm going to tell you what she's going to do

Well, what she already did. She just did something. I'm going to talk a little bit about the radio experience of what I did today

A lot of fun. So much fun. And I was right on the tip of my tongue

There was something else I wanted to talk about. It'll come. It come to me Don worry And if you have questions just put them in the chat And it could be anything It can be anything about your home It doesn matter It doesn matter at all

Let's talk a little bit about plumbing vent pipe plashings. First of all, you might not understand

You might wonder just what is a flashing in general. And I think the best description I've ever

come up with is a flashing, it's a transition material. It's something that connects a roof to something

that's not a roof. So it's like an intermediary. So in other words, a vent pipe is not a roof

You know, a vent pipe sticks up through a roof. A chimney is not a roof. So it sticks up next to a roof

or through a roof. You know, a skylight. A skylight is not a roof, all right? It's a skylight. That's

why they call it skylight. So all of these things have to have flashings around them so that

water doesn't get into your home. And the science of flashings was figured out hundreds and

hundreds of years ago. It's not hard at all. It's nothing about it as hard. But the trouble is
