Hi, I'm Tim Carter for AskTheBuilder.com. I'm here in New Hampshire in a basement, frosty winter
0:10
morning, two below zero here. Ooh, and that's Fahrenheit. So here's what I want to show you
0:16
Really, really pretty cool. This is where the technology has advanced to with radiant heating
0:22
These are metal transfer plates here, and it's got a channel in here in the PEX tubing that the
0:29
hot water is going to flow through. It's already been installed. Now why is this important? Here's
0:34
what they used to do. Go back a few years and these PEX tubes just used to be stapled to the
0:41
underside of the floor. Well, that would cause just a concentration of the heat just in that spot
0:47
Well, now the heat transfers across this entire plate. And if you notice, there's two in each of
0:54
the joist bays. Look at this. There's one here and then you'll see one here. Well, what
0:59
happens is that radiant tubing goes all the way down the joist bay, makes a loop, and then
1:06
it comes back this way and then it takes a turn and goes into the next joist over here So there just this huge giant loop But the point is these transfer plates that what you want to have in your home It gives much more even heating on the floor above And it really does
1:24
a good job protecting the PEX piping, you know, both from penetrations above, and it just really
1:31
does a good job of protecting them inside this joyous bay. You're going to like it a whole lot
1:35
So get those installed in your home if you're going to do radiant heating. I'm Tim Carter for
