Howdy, how you doing
0:03
Just check them here there right at the end. I'm Tim Carter
0:07
You are watching Ask the Builder. I am streaming live from Central New Hampshire
0:16
And it's like a spring day outside. Well, it's spring for New Hampshire
0:20
55 degrees today. Crazy. I was out earlier in just this flannel shirt
0:29
and it felt like it was 80 degrees. And that's what happens when you go from zero to 55
0:37
It's such a stark change in temperature that, I don't know, it just feels really warm out there
0:44
And I had to go to town earlier. Saw quite a few people in shorts
0:48
I mean, I love it when I see New Hampshire people in shorts. And I'm sure if I would have stayed around the grocery store long enough
0:55
that I would have seen somebody come in in shorts and a T-shirt. You know, I'm serious
1:02
Pretty hearty people here in New Hampshire. We're going to be talking in just a few minutes about this
1:09
about how to connect Peck Pipe I going to do a live demonstration right uh it going to be awesome because a lot of people they might think there a big mystery in connecting pecks and
1:22
especially connecting pecks to copper so i'm going to be doing that hello jimmy glad you're here glad you're
1:31
here there are there are both good people and there but there's some bad people out there too
1:37
hopefully we don't have any bad people on the stream. That's never a good thing
1:43
So I'm going to be talking about the pecs in just a few minutes. And what you need to realize, Jimmy already knows this
1:52
you control the rest of the conversation. In other words, wherever you want me to talk about, I'll talk about
2:00
But I don't have ESP. So that means you have to type a question into the chat stream
2:07
And then, you know, I'll answer your question. So it's a free service
2:13
Typically, if you were doing it outside of this live stream, you would pay $50 to get an answer
2:19
That's what I charge. So I do a lot of them each week
2:23
Do a lot of them. Lydia today just set one up She from Columbus So anyway let get started here
2:37
Yeah, that's what it is. I'll hold it up. See if you can read that, buddy
2:43
Yeah, there it is, man. Hoopone or Aqupex, baby. It's the only way to go
2:49
All right. You may want to, first of all, let me give you a little
2:54
context. I've been a master plumber since 1981. I cut my teeth doing copper. That was really kind of all
3:05
we did back in the Midwest. And also, I mean, I go back far enough that Pecks hadn't even been
3:11
invented yet. Or if it was, it was just being used over in Europe. And it eventually made its way
3:18
over here to the United States. So I know a lot about copper. And it's just, and it's just
3:24
covers a great material, but you need to understand that in certain situations, certain municipalities
3:31
certain states, they have what's called aggressive water. And it means that you need to understand
3:38
the chemistry even though you may look at water and you may think well all water the same It not not it not by a long shot And there can be chemicals in the water that can actually attack copper
3:52
and can be a really bad problem out in the southwest. Peck solves all those problems, all right
4:00
So Peck solves that. The other problem with copper is, when you typically run copper tubing
4:07
any time you want to make a change, of direction, you have to have a fitting, you know, like a 90, this is a PX one, but you have to have a fitting
4:17
And then you have to solder it. And you have to clean the tubing
4:22
You have to clean the fitting. You have to apply some flux, put it together. You might have to put some other things together
4:28
Then you have to turn the torch on. Takes maybe about, depending on the type of torch you use, I use acetylene
4:34
I could solder a joint in maybe 20 seconds because the acetylene burns
4:39
very hot. With pecs, you're going to see it's a lot faster. And you don't have all those other
4:46
steps. Here's the thing you need to know, though. When you're going to connect pecs to copper
4:53
you do it by means, and I thought I had one before I did the title of the video. I could not find it
