Oh, darn, you know, we didn't make it here in time to save this deck, and here's what the problem is
0:14
This is a great example of a deck that was ruined by a power washer
0:19
Those things are highly dangerous, and they can really, really hurt deck lumber, and I'll tell you why
0:24
You know, wood is made up of two components. Basically, there's spring wood and there's summer wood
0:30
Spring wood is the light colored wood that is in between the dark bands of grain
0:35
Okay, the spring wood is really soft and pressure washers, they can just tear it out of the wood
0:40
And the result is really grainy wood, it needs to be sanded
0:45
And in some instances it can actually cut your hand. Now, what's the best way to clean wood
0:49
I'll tell you what I've found. I like to use a product called oxygen bleach
0:53
Oxygen bleach, it's non-toxic. You just mix it with water. All you do is pour it onto the deck, let it sit for 10, 15 minutes
1:01
scrub it lightly with a scrub brush on a pole, rinse it with a garden hose, and the wood looks like new
1:07
No erosion, very safe. It's the only way to go. Oxygen bleach, where can you get it locally
1:12
At a lot of Peri and Derek stores, and if you're on the web, go to oxygenbleach.com
1:17
Okay, remember, all you really need to clean a deck the easy way is just a garden hose
1:22
