Oh, hi. How you doing? I'm Tim McCarter from AskTheBuilder.com and look what Mother Nature
0:13
gave us. A lot of beauty, but also a lot of work. I want to talk to you today a little
0:17
bit about snow blowers and boy are they fantastic machines. This is really, really a very cool
0:26
snow blower. I want to tell you a little bit about it first before we get going. And one
0:30
of the things though, and I'll be right back because I just left it inside the garage
0:34
so don't go away. Are these fans, whoa, see? That's why we need them. These are really
0:39
cool devices. These are ice cleats, so before you start to use one of these snow blowers
0:46
you actually have to take these really cool devices and you put them on the bottom of
0:51
your boots or your shoes so that you don't slip while you're actually using the snow
0:55
because believe me, it's really, really slippery. But I want to tell you a little bit about this snow blower first
1:00
This is an amazing machine. Here what a snow blower is It basically just like a lawn mower in a way You know how a lawn mower cuts grass and it shoots the grass out away from the lawn mower That all really a snow blower does But it has kind of a different blade It got these augers that are out
1:17
in front of the chute and they spin and they basically kind of funnel and chew through the
1:22
snow and bring it back to a high speed impeller that actually shoots the snow up through the
1:29
chute and puts it some direction that you control. And that's what's really cool. The
1:35
chute on the snow blower, it's controlled to where you can make it go through 180 degrees
1:39
so that the snow will either shoot left in front of you or to the right of the direction
1:44
you're traveling. And there's another control that shoots, that controls how high the snow
1:51
comes out of the chute. Very, very cool. Very easy to control those as well. Another thing
1:56
you need to understand about these snow blowers, they're a lot like a car. In other words, they
2:01
have a transmission that allows you to go forward different speeds and of course in reverse
2:07
when you need that You use the lower speeds when the snow is deeper so that you don choke the front of the snow blower with snow and as you have less and less snow you sometimes can go faster On the side of the snowblower up front you got these little adjustment pads that allow you to
2:26
adjust the depth of the cut and that's very important that when you are working
2:30
on a nice smooth pavement like concrete or blacktop the snowblower can actually
2:35
pick up the snow so that the pavement is almost perfectly clean. One of the things
2:39
you absolutely need to do before you start the snow blower is absolutely take the time
2:44
to open the owner's manual, read the owner's manual, and be very aware of all the safety
2:49
recommendations. These machines can be dangerous, you can't get hurt, it's like any piece of
2:54
power equipment. You have to respect it, but as long as you use it in accordance with the
2:58
way it's supposed to be used, you're going to be just fine. Woo! Wow! Tell me that isn't an awesome machine that's going to save your back. I'm telling
3:16
you right now that snow blowers like this one they can really make actually what considered a job or work a lot of fun I telling you right now and also remember you can use these things day or night This particular machine and many of the
3:31
other snow blowers, it comes with a nice headlight that allows you to illuminate and see exactly
3:36
where you're going at night. And a couple of final tips. Make sure before the snow season hits at
3:42
your home that you go ahead and clean and sweep your driveway. Get rid of all the branches, the
3:47
rocks and all kinds of other things that can actually jam up the augers or jam the impeller
3:53
You don't want that to happen. You do that and you're going to have a smooth, clean driveway
3:57
in no time flat. I'm Tim Carter for askthebuilder.com. If you want to discover more home improvement
