Hi, I'm Tim Carr. This is the Ask the Builder Live Stream for November 23rd
0:08
2021. I'm glad you're here and today it's gonna be a little bit of fun
0:14
Uh It's just a couple of days before Thanksgiving. The preparations are well underway here at the Carter House
0:22
Kathy has been doing a great job getting stuff ready and my job here just so
0:28
you know, is the official dishwasher, you know, so I um, I, I keep up with the dishes
0:33
She's down there making all the muffins now. Um And in anticipation
0:38
uh sweet potato muffins and pumpkin muffins. They're, they're absolutely delicious. Is all I can tell you
0:44
All right, I wanna thank today's sponsor Stain Solver. Great, great Oxygen bleach
0:50
So Stain Solver here, let me tell you something about Stain Solver. So if
0:56
if you're having a Thanksgiving feast in a couple of days, you have guests over or
1:02
or maybe it's just family, it doesn't matter. And you're serving red wine or you
1:06
you spill some gravy on the heirloom tablecloth. Don't just forget about it
1:12
Don't get upset. I'm serious. Don't, don't get upset. Let me tell you a story
1:16
So about 10 years ago, I got a uh email from a woman who had just like the day after Thanksgiving and the day before
1:25
Thanksgiving, she had brand new white carpet put in her house. And then of course
1:29
all the guests come over, one of the guests spills a giant glass of red wine on the carpet
1:36
And the guest like freaks out, you know, and like jumps up out of the chair and goes to grab something to clean it up
1:42
and the woman says, no, no, no, no, no. Just sit down, sit down
1:45
go back to eating. Don't worry about it. We'll just leave it alone because tomorrow I'll just use my Stain Solver and get it out
1:52
That's how good it is. So Stain Solver gets that red wine stains. It's really an amazing product
1:57
All right. So just go to Stain solver.com, watch the videos, blah
2:02
blah, blah. It's a product that Kathy and I make, we've owned the company from the beginning
2:07
Uh It's, it's just a really, really good product. It's a certified organic powdered oxygen bleach
2:13
anything that's water, washable Stain Solver or clean it. Simple as that. Ok
2:17
Hey Lennon, how are you doing? Um What so? Oh, well, that's because the discussions happening right now
2:24
It's gonna happen in a few minutes. Uh I, I was just kind of playing with that poll thing
2:29
What I was afraid of is that if I um if I didn't put the poll up before the discussion
2:36
people would leave and then, um, they wouldn't be able to vote
2:41
I saw, I, I don't, I don't know how to do it. I remember this is all new to me. So
2:45
and plus it would look really awkward if I'm down here typing, trying to create the poll during the live stream
2:50
I mean, it just, ah, you know, I, I'm still a rookie
2:54
Ok. So anyway, just hang tight. You're gonna learn something here, I think
2:58
or discover something new. I hate to use the word learn. You know what learning is
3:02
Hard discovering is fun. All right. So, anyway, uh let's talk a little bit about wet basements in my linear French strange streaming video first
3:12
Well, I want to spend a bit of time with us. Uh The um remember if you like what you hear
3:17
hit that like button and a little too early to hit it. We, we haven't really covered anything yet
3:22
Thank you. Yes. Like I said, I'm, I'm new at this. I just did
3:26
I didn't know what to do about the pole, you know. So, anyway, I created about 67 years ago a I couldn't
3:35
believe how long it was. I mean, at the time I was recording each of the video segments
3:39
I recorded this, this one video over two days and I was installing a linear French drain and all the linear French drain is
3:47
it's a gutter in the ground. So if you have a wet basement problem
3:51
a wet crawl space or a soggy backyard, I can solve it
3:55
My linear French drain will, will, will dry it all up. You won't have any more leaks in your basement and there's a link to
4:01
the video up in the chat and you should go read, all you have to do is just go
4:06
go click that link and read the testimonial that Fred left and how I'll tell you a quick story
4:13
So Fred owned a bed and breakfast here in New Hampshire. And when I moved here 13 years ago
4:19
uh he asked me, I don't know how it came up in conversation, but he
4:23
he told me about how his basement in this, this building was built in the 18 hundreds
4:27
So it had a rock foundation and he said there's so much water pouring through the basement that they had to put wood pallet
4:35
Think about this. They put wood pallets down and made sidewalks in the basement
4:41
And because the water was just flowing through it, it, it's like the, the the whole basement floor was had three inches of water on
4:47
it all the time. It was insanity. So I said, I know exactly how to solve the problem
4:53
So he had to bring out a bigger piece of equipment. We, we dug a linear French strain about 6 ft deep uh with AAA
5:00
big excavator. Um But to make a long story short, as soon as the linear French drain was in and he did it the way
5:07
I told him to do it, the basement immediately dried up. There's never been a drop of water in it since
5:11
So just read his testimonial. If that doesn't, if that doesn't convince you to watch the video
5:17
nothing will. II, I don't know what else to say. So they really, really work
5:21
Uh They're really amazing and I know they work because I've installed lots of them and my college degrees in geology and I had a
5:30
focus in hydro geology. So, hydro geology is the study of groundwater
5:35
All right. So very few proper have base. Yeah, that's interesting. So
5:41
I wonder why the, um, but I'll bet you they've got crawl spaces though
5:45
huh? I would just think, I wouldn't think that you would have a lot of, um
5:49
uh, you know, a lot of slab, uh, houses over there in the UK
5:53
But don't, you have a lot of crawl spaces over there to grow? Your crawl spaces would get wet and damp and horrible
5:58
So, the linear French drain will solve all those problems too. Let's talk a little bit about
6:03
um, Lake Bonneville. I decided to do something a little different today
6:09
Here it is two days before Thanksgiving. This is the last live stream of the week I thought
6:14
Let's just kind of go off topic a little bit. Uh, and see if you enjoy this
6:19
that, that's all because it's, I think it's always kind of interesting to get new information and
6:24
you know, that's why I put that poll up there that I hope you vote in. All right
6:28
So, here's how, here's what started it. This is what caused me to have to talk about Lake Bonneville
6:35
Ok. Right. Ok. Victorian buildings. Yes. Um, I was, I went to Accuweather today
6:42
accuweather.com and I just wanted to see, is there some kind of bad weather coming here to New Hampshire
6:48
blah, blah, blah, whatever, you know. II, I don't go to it too often because I
6:54
you know, you can't control the weather and we're not yet in the
6:57
we don't have any big winter storms aimed at us right now. So I just was kind of bored and I went there
7:02
So I see this, this promo for a story and it, and it was talked about how the oldest newspaper in the West had
7:12
taken some photographs of, of The Great Salt Lake, you know, which is right there at Salt Lake City in Utah
7:19
And, and then they, they overlaid the photos of what the lake looks like today
7:26
And the, I think the last line in the promo, uh, and it just made me laugh
7:32
I mean, I just like, oh, I just couldn't believe it. I went
7:36
it was, I think the last line of the promo, you, if you go to a weather.com right now
7:40
you can go see it. It's there, I'm sure. But it was something like, um, there's still time to save it
7:50
I was like, ok. All right, whatever. Uh, so in other live streams
7:59
I've said there's an old saying, you don't know what you don't know
8:03
All right. That, that's true for me. I, I mean, there's countless things
8:07
I don't know. I've never been exposed to. So, if you've not been exposed to geology then you probably don't know a thing
8:17
about Lake Bonneville. All right. So, but you might have heard about the Bonneville Salt Flats
8:21
All right, which are west of the Great Salt Lake and where they routinely these
8:27
these people who want to race really fast and set land speed records. They take these very fast rocket cars out there and some people
8:34
survive and some people die. But anyway, so you heard about the Bonneville su let you probably wonder
8:39
Well, how did, how did it get its name? Oh, well, we're gonna, we're gonna discover that right now
8:44
All right. So remember if you like what you hear, click the like button
8:47
I appreciate it. The like buttons really help us. It'll help us grow the live stream
8:53
Here's a true story. So I would say probably 17 years ago because my son was not
9:02
able to drive. Uh, he and I drove from Cincinnati out to Idaho and we stopped at a couple of places along the way
9:10
We stopped and visited some friends in Colorado. Uh, and then we drove from Colorado
9:17
we went to Rocky Mountain National Park. Then we kind of went over and we had to jump
9:21
we had to get to where we had to go. We had to go to Salt Lake City. And
9:25
um, I had been in that general area when I was uh 18 years old
9:32
but that was a long time before. So, uh, hey Ozzy, how you doing
9:36
Um, oh, so Lennon's got a question. Uh, is it really salty or
9:41
No, it's very salty. So the great Salt lake, uh, the only
9:45
I think the only body of water that is saltier is the dead sea
9:48
All right. So, and I'll explain why it's so salty in just a minute here
9:53
Uh Back to back, you don't care for too many live chats, back to back boring
9:57
All right. Well, Ozzy, there's nothing I can do, man. You, you know what I've got a saying that for my
10:03
I tell my kids life's full of decisions. So make good ones. So
10:07
you know what to do anyway. So, 14
10:16
or 17 years ago, I'm driving through Salt Lake City and, and to get to Idaho
10:21
you have to drive north uh up up an interstate highway and you know
10:25
the geology is all fascinating to me. I'm looking to the left and to the right and it's just so obvious there are these horizontal
10:32
lines, hundreds of feet up in the mountains. I mean, one after another
10:37
like a layer cake and, and, and I'm going, I'm going, there's only one thing that could have made those marks that
10:46
that, that was an, a, uh, an old shoreline to a lake
10:50
All right. So, when I was a student in geology, you know, you can't study everything
10:54
I mean, there's just, I mean, the subject is like this big, you can't see my arms and when you're a college student
11:00
you can only, you can only study, you can only study this much
11:04
you know, like uh the width of a paper. All right. So, uh
11:08
and there's a story about that, by the way, if you go to my personal blog, Tim Carter dot If you just type this into
11:13
Google uh type Ken Caster. So, Kencast, er, and then my name Ken Caster
11:22
then Tim Carter read that story I wrote about Doctor Caster. Uh that'll
11:26
that'll tell you how big the topic is. Anyway. I, I go that could only be an old shoreline
11:36
So we're driving up the expressway maybe 3040 miles. I don't know a long way
11:41
And all of a sudden I see a big historical marker on the side of the uh uh expressway
11:46
which is pretty rare. I mean, I think it was an actual little exit because
11:51
you know, they wouldn't want people just parking on the shoulder of the road. So I pulled over because there was a sign advertising a
11:56
historical marker. And so what it was, it was right at the pass and it was at Red Rock Pass and it was
12:04
it was just below the top of where Lake Bonneville was. All right
12:09
So, so Lake Bonneville, get this. If you go back in time
12:16
if we could get into a time machine, all of us jump into it into the capsule
12:20
We're all together having a good time. Uh having some hot chocolate here
12:24
Let's have a little sip right now. Ozzy. Are you still here
12:32
He, he enjoys my videos, but he doesn't like the live chat. Isn't that interesting
12:36
Because some people have told me that the opposite. That's why they make purple cars and why they make black ones and white ones
12:42
All right. So anyway, uh, bingo. Yes. So, anyway, uh, pull over and here's the historical marker
12:52
and it talks about Lake Bonneville. And so, so if we could get into the time capsule
12:56
we go back 25,000 years from now, right from right now. 20 let's go back in time
13:01
25,000 years where the Great Salt Lake is now. Um, that, that
13:08
that was like the bottom. I mean, that's the bottom of Lake Bonneville and Lake Bonneville was 1000 ft deep
13:15
1000 ft. So that's a lot of water. So when it was completely filled up
13:21
it, it, it had a surface area of almost 20,000 miles. So that the the thumbnail photo today for the live stream
13:31
is, is that overlay? So you can actually see, you know, the big shape of Lake Bonneville and then you can see in a lighter
13:37
shade. I think the current size of the Great Salt Lake, which we have now anyway
13:44
So you, you know, you should and, and get this. So, so
13:48
and if you go back, where's my notes? Here we go. Um If you
13:52
you know the, the lake was, and if you go back 140,000 years ago
13:58
the lake was 700 ft higher than it than it currently is
14:02
And, um, the lake also went up 65,000 years ago, but it was at its highest 25,000 years ago
14:09
So your, your immediate question should be like, how, how much does it have to rain or
14:18
how much does it have to snow to create that much water
14:24
You know, that, that, that would fill that giant. I mean, it's a lot of water
14:29
All right. So, so you can read about it, just go online, uh
14:33
just type Lake Bonneville history and go read all about Lake Bonneville and
14:38
and, and it'll, it'll tell you everything you need to know about it. But the point is I'll get to the questions in just a
14:43
minute. Uh, the point is I want you just to put two and two together
14:49
All right. And you should go, well, first of all, your first takeaway should be that
14:58
those lines in the mountain. All right. Those wave, those old beaches
15:04
you know, because what happened is to create that line in the mountain
15:08
the level of the water was there for hundreds of years and the wind would just
15:13
you know, just like on any lake, the wind would eat away at the rock there and it would make a
15:18
a line. All right. And then as the water goes up or down, like if it goes up
15:22
then it buries it. But if it goes down, it exposes, you know, the one
15:26
you know that, that, that was down below the water. All right. So, so you need to go
15:30
you need to ask yourself, first of all, you need to understand that the rocks don't lie
15:34
All right, it's impossible for rocks to lie. The data is right there
15:39
And um, we, it's our job to look at the data and
15:43
and, and determine what what's going on. But we do know that people lie
15:48
All right. People lie all the time. All right. So they lie for all different kind of reasons
15:54
So you need to ask, you just need to go what in the world has to happen to create
16:03
that much rain and snow because then the summer the snow would melt and fill the lake
16:10
You, you know, whereas now just 25,000 years later, you know, the lake is almost empty and the reason why is in that part of
16:18
the United States? If, if you don't live in the US, it's called the Great Basin
16:22
So look up a map of the Great Basin. It's a big area, multi state area
16:26
So what's really interesting about the Great Basin? It's exactly what it's saying
16:31
So think of a, think of a plate like a dinner plate. So a dinner plate is this
16:36
you know, it, it's, it's a round disc, but the center of the plate is lower than the edges
16:42
So the, you know, the, um uh, if you had water in the center of the plate
16:50
it can't get out, you know, whereas most other places like, like here in New Hampshire
16:54
we have lakes but all of the lakes, they're, they're like stair step
16:58
one lake drops into another lake which drops into another lake and finally it drops into the Merrimack River and all that water goes out
17:05
to the Atlantic Ocean. All right. So, um, so you should go
17:11
how, what, what's going on that? It creates all that rain and snow
17:18
It fills the lake up 1000 ft deep with water. And there were lakes all over the out west
17:25
you know that it wasn't just Lake Bonneville and then something happens beginning 20,000 years or so ago that
17:34
all of a sudden the lake is almost dry, it's almost completely dried up
17:39
All right. So, and just so, you know, in all that time
17:43
this is your takeaway and all that time, there were no buses
17:49
no cars, no factories, no power plants. Um see, see where I'm going with this
17:58
In other words, um here's, here's the bottom line. The climate is always changing but mother nature is
18:05
is so much better. She is so much better at changing the climate than we are
18:09
And so that's her takeaway. So go read about Lake Bonneville and just keep that in the back of your mind that like how in
18:14
the world did all that happen when there weren't any buses and trucks and cars and power plants and factories around
18:21
Yeah. Yeah. So, and keep that in mind. So when people are looking at modern day data
18:28
they might be lying about it. All right. They want to keep their grant money
18:32
Ok. Let's see. What's everybody's what you've typed and uh if you have any other questions now about anything with your home
18:38
that's what we're gonna answer now. And that's what we're gonna do. The rest of the live stream. Ozzy
18:43
I hope if you're still there that I can keep your attention and win you back
18:48
you know. So, uh the live streams Casino are supposed to be fun
18:52
They're not supposed to be lectures. No one likes to be lectured to. They're supposed to be about stories and they're supposed to be about
18:59
you leaving the live stream in a better mood than when you came
19:02
All right. So make sure you vote. Uh If you like the Lake Bonneville story and if you like the polls
19:07
let me know if I should do more of them. Um Remember I'm a newbie at this
19:11
You may be an expert at this live streaming. I'm not, but I'm, I'm getting better every day
19:15
Ok. Let's see here. Uh Don't come here. Ozzie Jog on uh
19:28
Yes. Well, motorcycle movie. Ok. Speaking of lakes, how is Lake Winnipesaukee
19:32
Uh When does it start for you? Ok, great question. So Lake Winnipesaukee is just over this little hill
19:39
I can, I can't see it from my window here but I, I can see the hill
19:43
Uh Lake Winnipesaukee is only, I guess it was the bird flies
19:49
I don't know, three miles from where I'm, I'm sitting, I live on, on Lake Winne
19:54
Comm. I'm right on the shore of Lake Wins. QM. I'm sitting only 80 ft from the shore of Lake one Squam
20:00
Uh When will they freeze? Ok. That's a moving quite a target. It
20:04
it really is a, it's a, it's a, it's a um uh here's what happens with the Lake Winnipesaukee
20:10
So Lake Winnipesaukee is the biggest lake in New Hampshire. Hu pretty big lake
20:14
72 square miles. But put that in comparison with the Lake Bonneville
20:18
So Lake Winnipesaukee? 72 square miles of surface area. Lake Bonneville, almost 20,000 miles
20:27
Huge lake. All right. So it will start to freeze. Well, what will happen is Alton Bay
20:36
Like if you look at a map, Lennon, I want you to go look at a map of Lake Winne Pasa. You'll notice down at
20:41
the south end of the lake is a place called Alton Bay. It's a really narrow finger and that bay will
20:47
will be one of the first places that freezes. And as the winter goes on the ice in Alton Vega is really pretty thick
20:54
It might get 3 4 ft thick. It's, it gets so thick at this
20:58
We actually have every, as long as the ice is thick enough, we have uh an airport
21:03
an official airport that the FAA the Federal Aviation Administration here in America that they certify and
21:11
and pilots love to come and land on, on, on the, on the ice and they
21:17
there's a lot of accidents but not that they crash into the lake, but these pilots are not used to landing on ice
21:22
So they, they skid out. And anyway, so, uh watch that this winter wa watch or go to youtube actually
21:29
And, and look for Alton Bay, uh Alton Bay runway that I would just type that in a Lton Alton Bay runway and I'm
21:37
you'll see a bunch of videos about it. So I would say that um you can also
21:44
you can Google if you go Lake Winnipesaukee Ice in dates. So Lake Winnipesaukee Ice
21:53
I ce then the word in, in dates. So ice ice in means when does it freeze and you'll come up
21:58
you'll see a big chart that, that probably goes back to the 18 hundreds that shows you the earliest time that the lake is frozen
22:05
over. I would estimate Winne Pasa, the earliest it's ever completely iced over
22:11
I mean, it's a big lake man. Um, II, I would just say
22:16
I don't know, January 15th. That would be my guess. You could maybe, maybe be looking it up while I'm talking and
22:21
and, and put it in the chat. But, but, uh, it, it, it'll generally freeze up in January and then the ice out
22:29
which is when it opens up is usually the, the, the, the
22:33
the highest concentration of ice out dates are usually about the second or third week of April
22:38
So, uh, same thing with my lake here, Lake Wins Gum. It's very similar ice and ice out dates
22:45
OK. Uh C facts. No, nothing to do with cows. Uh All right
22:51
So anyway, uh, if you have any other questions about your home or whatever
22:55
just, you know, type them in the chat, I'm happy to help you
22:59
Uh, I had a just so, you know, I did a, a very impromptu
23:02
I just wanted to do a test. I did a live chat this morning
23:06
I think about 930 Eastern time. I didn't announce it. I didn't say tell anyone and I just wanted to see what would happen
23:14
We picked up about 15 or 20 viewers. And uh it was very some
23:19
some decent questions. So it was a good uh good time. I talked
23:23
I opened up and I was just talking about toilet flans where you know the height
23:28
how, why it's critical when you put those things in. So if you want to discover all you need to ever know about toilet flans
23:33
go watch that, that um curated copy of the live stream, right
23:39
So if you like this story about Lake Bonneville, hit that like button, uh We want to get as many likes as we can
23:45
And uh it's really important the the likes really help the live stream
23:50
It helps it in the rankings of youtube as well as Google. So
23:54
um if you have any, I'm looking over to chat to see if there's any questions
23:59
I don't see any questions. Um Oh I did, I said I would explain why it's salty
24:04
Uh pretty simple. So what happens is uh the as the water flows into the Great Lake as well as the Dead Sea
24:13
Um It, it um it's got minerals, dissolved minerals in the water
24:19
And, and I mean, you have that in just even regular water reg regular well water or
24:23
or water from a river has got dissolved minerals. And, and what happens is since the salt lake
24:30
you know, doesn't um it doesn't have water pass through it to get rid of it
24:35
So as the water evaporates the the dissolved mineral concentration gets higher and higher
24:41
So that's why it's salty and, um, simple as that you can
24:45
you can read all about it. But, um, all right. Uh, so let me
24:51
let me tell you about what's gonna happen. Uh, next week I'm going to
24:56
I'm gonna, I'm gonna do a live stream every day, Monday through Friday. And I'm just gonna pick some really light topics and we'll just
25:05
kind of dive into those a little bit. Uh, because as I said, uh, historically
25:10
uh, the month of December people are just at least here in America
25:14
I, I don't know how it is in other parts of the world, people, people and they should
25:18
they get serious about the holidays, they get serious about Christmas. They get a little stressed out
25:24
which is unfortunate and, you know, home improvement is the last thing on their mind and I understand I get it
25:30
I get it. I don't, you know, I understand it. So, so I don't want to
25:34
to get really intense and do really intense live streams when they're not going to be appreciated
25:40
Simple as that. So, so we'll, we'll just do some fun things and I'm open to your suggestions
25:45
If you have any suggestions about what we could do what I could do to make the live streams more interesting for you
25:51
I'm happy to do it simple as that. Um, it's gonna be wonderful
25:55
So, today I'm, it's, it's a little cold outside. We, we had a little cold friend come through
25:59
So I decided, you know what? I think I'll make some hot chocolate. So that's why I've got the
26:04
um, the orange cap on this cline. This is a really wonderful stainless steel
26:09
uh, double insulated mug. Really keeps things warm and yes, I did put some marshmallows
26:19
in it. All right. So, I mean, how could you have hot chocolate without marshmallows
26:24
All right. All right, Ozzy. Um, if you're still here, uh I
26:29
I'm sorry that, that you don't like these live streams. All right. So let's talk a little bit about
26:34
Um, I have some other tools I have actually, I have this huge assortment of tools and I'm probably
26:43
I think one of the things I'll do the rest of the month like December is talk a little bit about some of the different
26:48
tools. Uh I think that would be kind of entertaining and, and there's
26:52
there's usually a story with all of them and, um, you know
26:56
I've got some favorites and I, I just, um, as you might imagine
27:02
I do have a pretty big assortment of tools and that a lot of them are
27:06
are the ones I used back when I was still building, but I've also accumulated some other new ones and I got some press releases
27:12
I've got some new tools that are on their way. I don't know how quickly they're going to get here
27:16
But as soon as they get here, I will absolutely feature them on a live stream. One of the things I'm also gonna feature
27:22
I reached out to a company today about this really ecofriendly paint
27:27
Uh, you know, that you might paint the inside of your house with. So, if you have little kids
27:31
like my granddaughter, I, I wanted to get some of this ecofriendly paint because I have
27:36
you're gonna see this. I'm gonna, I'm going to, um, featured on a live stream next week
27:41
Um, I, I did a Kickstarter project about seven years ago. It was successful
27:47
Uh, I hit my goal and I raised money. And what I did is I sold these
27:52
uh, access to a series of videos about building a shed. A pretty big shed
27:57
16 by 24 ft. It's right out the window here. I know you can't see it
28:01
Um, so I built a scale model of the shed before I did the project and it was really kind of fun to build a
28:09
little scale model. So I decided, uh, it's just been sitting up in the shed on a shelf and I thought
28:14
well, that's silly. I thought, I think I'll just give it to my granddaughter for Christmas
28:18
So she, she could play with it because she's at that age where, where it should be a lot of fun to play with
28:24
So, but I, but I thought I asked my daughter, I said what color should I paint it
28:28
So, she told me what colors to paint it. I'm not gonna tell you what they are. I'm gonna surprise you
28:32
but I decided and, and to paint it with this ecofriendly paint
28:36
So I'm gonna feature that paint when I get it. And so that's what we'll probably do in December
28:41
we're gonna talk about, uh, uh, tools and a lot of neat products and
28:45
um, see if that will help you, uh, make good decisions of your own
28:49
All right, Ozzie's gone to bite a bat's head off. Oh, where's my knitted
28:59
watch hat? Um. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I didn't, I told you I was gonna wear a knitted hat
29:03
I, um, I wore it out. I, I had it on this morning outside. Uh
29:08
I will, you know what, III, I guarantee you, I'll wear it next week
29:11
II, I don't want to get up now and walk away from the live stream. It's
29:15
it's downstairs. So I will wear that knitted hat. It's got a really nice patch on the front of it
29:20
A Soda Summits on the air, uh, patch which started in England
29:24
by the way. Um, Lenin Soda Summits on the air. All right
29:29
Ha Shelby. How do I install handrails next to steps at front porch
29:34
I do not want to attach, drill into the cement cap of the porch
29:39
I need to meet code. Ok. So, uh, it would, I'm really
29:43
uh, you know, questions like that I'm, I'm obviously at a real disadvantage because I can't see the steps
29:49
One of the things that you can do is you can put you assuming their soil on either side of the steps
29:58
All right, I'm just gonna make that assumption. Uh, you can bury a post down at the bottom
30:04
like right in front of the last post and as close to the porch as you can get and
30:09
and you can bury those in the post and you can actually drill the holes and anchor the one post up up at the top
30:16
near the porch into the side of the steps, uh, to anchor it
30:21
So it won't wobble and you could attach your hand rail to those two posts
30:25
And that way you're not drilling into the cap, the top cap of the porch
30:29
So, um, uh, soil side, it's good. Ok, great. So you can just
30:35
you can just put posts on the side of the steps and then you can attach your hand rail in board
30:42
You know, you could, you could, uh, do it to code or there's, you know, you, you want it to be continuous and you want
30:47
it to meet code so that people don't fall and they can grab onto it and it's comfortable
30:52
There's all kinds of videos online that show you how to do this. But, uh, just keep in mind
30:56
remember that the handrail itself needs to be parallel with the front nose of the steps
31:01
which is really easy to do. You can just take a piece of plywood or some piece of wood that's about 26 inches wide
31:08
And if you put that 26 inch piece wide of plywood, um on the steps at an angle
31:15
you know, in other words, uh let me, I can, I'll do that with my smartphone
31:19
So imagine if, if, if, imagine if, if this edge of the smartphone is touch
31:24
just touching the nosing of the steps. What happens? Magic? If, if this distance here is 26 inches
31:32
um The top of this is really close to where the code approved height of the rail should be because generally
31:40
I think the code I ha I haven't looked at in a while but it's generally 32 to 36 inches is where they want that
31:45
to be vertically above the nose. So, uh that tells you how to get the height right for the rail
31:50
Uh But just anchor those posts really, really well, if you have to dig down and surrounded with concrete
31:57
whatever it takes to make the post nice and rigid, that's how you do it
32:00
Simple as that. Um OK, Lennon, are there any tool manufacturers that are better or just as good as Milwaukee or De Walt
32:09
Um I happen to be really partial to, to Bosch uh as far as power tools
32:17
Uh Bosch is a good brand. Uh DeWalt makes a really great tool
32:21
I mean, I, they, they, you know, they make a really good, uh, heavy
32:25
heavy duty, uh, electric tools, drills and saws that, that work really well
32:31
Um Milwaukee was also making really, really good stuff. Milwaukee got Milwaukee got angry at me about four years ago
32:40
five years ago. And what happened is I told the truth in one of my reviews when I tell the truth all the time
32:50
but they didn't, I got, I told too much truth in, in this one review
32:54
They, they decided to get into the, the, they, they got really big Milwaukee used to just make tools for plumbers and electricians and then
33:02
they decided to go big. I mean, they, they just started making, they went crazy over the past 10 years
33:08
And anyway, uh they decided to make a nail gun for carpenters and
33:15
and just go read my, go to my website and look at the photos and
33:20
and read and look at the photos of what I had to say about the Milwaukee nail gun and that was the last tool that
33:27
Milwaukee ever sent me. So, you know, some of these tool companies
33:32
they don't like it when you tell the truth. All right. So some. Yeah
33:35
Oh, that's a really good segue. By the way, you, there, there are other websites out there that are just devoted to reviewing tools and
33:46
I don't know how to say this the right way. Um First of all
33:52
some of the people who own those websites, um, they don't have any background and tools
33:59
they've never worked in construction. All right. So, here, here's a little trip
34:04
here's a little tip. This is really important and this really goes for any website that you're on
34:09
So, let's say you're at a website and you, you, you, you wanna know
34:14
I wonder how authoritative the information that this website is. I wonder how
34:18
you know, is this stuff really accurate? Was it written by an expert or whatever
34:22
Well, go to their about page. All right, just go to the about page and if you don't see a photograph or
34:31
the name of the owner of the website, I mean, that should be a flashing yellow light to you
34:38
Like, wait a minute, why are they hiding who they are? Why are they hiding their background
34:45
Right. So, so that, that most people don't do that, they just go to this website
34:50
they start reading it. You'll start reading this tour review and this, this tour you might be gushing like
34:54
oh my gosh, it's the best circular saw ever. And blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And
34:59
and you just think, oh, it must be a really good saw then. Well, how's the person to know if it's a good song if
35:04
he's never used a saw in his life? Great question. Right. All right
35:08
So that's, uh, that's your tip for the day. Um All right
35:14
Uh What's your fav William's got a question. What's your favorite trade as far as building
35:19
Oh, I, um, that's, uh, we had this question a couple of days ago. You might not have been here
35:23
but it's a really good question. I, I happen to love doing plumbing as crazy as that sounds
35:31
I, I love installing plumbing pipes of all types. And the reason why is because it's a three dimensional puzzle
35:37
It's, it's actually in 3d. So think about this, you, um, you've got typically just one pipe that exits the house
35:45
your building drain that goes or the septic tank, you might only have one pipe that goes out the roof
35:52
You know, your, your vent pipe, you know, you might have two or three vent pipes because for all kinds of reasons that that's a
35:58
topic for another day. But in between those two pipes, they're all in what you need to know is all the pipes in the house
36:04
are all interconnected. They're all connected. So, like if you were a mouse and you
36:11
you went in, you, you went in one end of the pipe down at the building drain and
36:15
and you could, you could crawl around and there were handholds inside the pipe
36:19
You could get into every single pipe. You, you would just go, it'd be a giant maze
36:23
All right. So I love designing those systems and then I love building them
36:29
Uh, carpentry is in the same way. All right. So think of carpentry
36:32
Think of how, if you've never done it before, uh, it is really fulfilling to take a pile of lumber and
36:43
then transform it into a shed or a house or, or whatever
36:49
I mean, it's, and, and, and, and, and to make it right and, and to make sure it's plumb and square and
36:55
and solid, it doesn't sway. That's pretty fulfilling. All right. So I
36:59
those are the two things I like doing. I, I like doing electric work. Electric is really pretty easy
37:04
I mean, to me it's very simple. Residential electricity is you can almost do it blindfolded
37:09
It's so simple. Um, not a big fan anymore of drywall though
37:14
I used to not mind drywall, but I'm not a big fan of doing drywall work anymore
37:19
Don't like sanding it at all. Um, I used to like painting
37:24
I'm not, so I don't like painting too much anymore. I, I don't know, I, I don't
37:27
I don't know why. I just don't like doing it. Uh, I don't mind doing ceramic tile work
37:33
Uh, it's really kind of fun. Uh It, what's really cool about it is it is
37:37
it's really precision work. You have to know what you're doing. You have to do a lot of planning to make it all work out
37:42
So, I hope that answers your questions. All right. Um, do you have any moderators yet
37:48
Um, I don't know what a moderator is. I'm sorry, I don't
37:53
I don't know. Uh, help me, tell me what a moderator is
37:57
Um, I don't, I don't know what one is. So, tell me, uh
38:02
will's got a question. Got to move my upstairs bathroom exhaust fan. Ok. It's now being vented into a roof channel to vent through the
38:09
peak vents. That's a bad idea. All right. That's horrible. Hate to cut another hole in the roof
38:15
Ok. So it's not, uh, uh, will, I don't know where you live
38:20
Uh will are you? You know, I apologize. I think you live in Maine
38:24
Is that true? Are you the, are you my viewer that lives over just across the border in Maine
38:30
Um Why can flux make pinholes in copper pipes? Simple if it
38:34
it does really happen, it's because the, because the flux is acid and you've got a chemical reaction happening
38:41
I'm waiting for will to answer back. You've got a chemical reaction. That's why after you solder copper
38:47
you have to wipe off the, so you have to cool it down and you have to clean that joint
38:52
You cannot leave any, so any flux on the outside of the pipe. And you can always tell there's flux on the outside of the
38:57
pipe if you see that green corrosion. Uh Yes, you're in Maine
39:01
OK. So uh you, you would not want to put, you would not want to put a roof cap on
39:07
I, I have a, I have a video I have a video, an old video
39:11
I recorded it maybe 1516 years ago, uh showing you exactly how to cut a hole in a roof to put a
39:19
a vent cap for a bathroom fan, uh on a roof and
39:24
and how to do it. So it won't leak. But I don't want you to do that
39:27
I don't want you to do it in Maine. You get too much snow so you need to
39:32
you need to figure out a way to get that vent pipe out the side wall. Uh, and don't put it in a soffit and
39:38
don't put it out a side wall right under a soffit because then all that moist air gets sucked up through the soffit vents and
39:44
then you're gonna have all kinds of mold mildew in the attic. So you've got to get that bathroom exhaust out a side wall so
39:51
that the water vapor gets away from the house. As simple as that. I, I, you know
39:55
I, I can't help you any other way but just tell you where not to do it. Do not put it in the roof
39:59
do not put it in the sauce. Um, we'll try to vent it by the one
40:03
Yeah, you could do that above a window but just, you just gotta make sure it's
40:08
it's not underneath a soffit because what's gonna happen is you're gonna draw that warm air right up into the attic and a year or
40:14
two from now, if you go up into the attic in that area, you're gonna see the underside of the roof sheathing and your rafters
40:20
are gonna all be black and covered with mold. It's crazy. So just you gotta be careful
40:26
you gotta use common sense. Um So any other questions now is the time to ask them and make
40:35
sure boy, uh this has not been a great live stream. I can tell there's not too many likes
40:42
So, uh, I, I gotta do a better job. All right. So we won't talk about lakes anymore
40:47
I guess you have a 12 inch overhang, right? Well, you just
40:53
you just have to make sure that, you know, you, I'm sure you've seen a dryer vent in the winter time
41:00
like, like you, you, you have a dryer vent and, and, and in the first five minutes the dryer is running
41:06
I mean, it looks like the, the house is on fire but it's, it's water vapor
41:10
I mean, you go outside, you see this big cloud of water vapor coming out of the dryer vent
41:15
Well, the same thing on a smaller scale is gonna happen with the bathroom vent
41:19
You're gonna have a smaller cloud of water vapor and then hot air rises
41:24
So it's gonna go right up into the saut. So you have to, you just have to make sure that water
41:30
that water vapor does not go into the soffit and does not go up into the attic
41:33
Simple as that. I don't, I don't know what else to say if you have any questions
41:38
Now is the time to ask them, just put them in the chat window
41:41
I would love to do my best to answer them and help you. Uh
41:46
what do I think of Push Fit fittings? Um, I don't know what those are
41:50
Lennon. Um, uh, a live stream on common HV. AC problems would be an interesting topic
41:57
Did you? Uh That's true. So Walt um Lennon, tell me what uh Push fit fitting is
42:03
Um I I maybe it's a press fitting. Maybe you're talking about
42:07
we call them over here in the United States press fittings. Um Anyway
42:11
Walt, I just, I recorded a video 10 days ago at a Christmas bazaar at my church
42:19
I was working there and it was about static pressure and I explained in
42:24
in less than two minutes, the whole concept of static pressure. And that video is right here on my channel
42:30
but it's in the uploaded videos, not the live section. So just you can also type into youtube search engine
42:37
just type in static pressure, Tim Carter. And it'll come up and
42:42
and that's another tip. By the way, if you ever want to see a video that I've done about a topic just type the the
42:51
search term like ceramic tile and then put my name after it
42:55
Tim Carter or shingle roof, shingles. Tim Carter or Concrete Tim Carter
43:01
what, whatever. And you're gonna see all the videos I've done about that topic. It's gonna really make things easier for you
43:06
Um, you know, there may be another way to do it, uh, where you can just search on my channel
43:11
But, um, I'm just telling you how to quickly find the videos but go watch it
43:16
But yes, uh, a, a live stream about common HV AC would be great
43:21
So here's how you can help me. Uh um Well, um you can make a small list of all the things you want to know
43:29
All right, so that's gonna help me. In other words, what do you want to know about HB AC
43:34
So, and then all you do is make that little list and you put it here or just go to my website
43:40
ask the voter.com and find the Ask Tim page and just send me an email that way
43:45
And uh that, that'll really help because I, I want to do things that interest you
43:49
I don't want to go off onto a tangent of things you don't like as simple as that. Push fit pipes instead of soldering
43:55
Ok. So there we go. So, um here in America I've never seen where it just pushes in and it works because the water pressure
44:02
I would think would be too great here in America. And you can want, hey, so Lennon
44:06
you can go, same thing, go to my channel, go type in press press copper
44:12
So P Ress copper Tim Carter type that into youtube. You should see a quick video I did about press fittings
44:19
So here in America we have a fitting that has a rubber O ring inside of it and you slide the tubing into this fitting
44:28
and then there's a tool that crimps down, you know it, it squeezes the outer rim of the fitting to lock it into the copper
44:36
tubing so that the tubing can't come out. Um, so I don't know if that's how you guys do it in the UK
44:42
I, I can't imagine that you would be able just to push it in. Maybe there's some kind of lock
44:47
But um anyway, I love those things. They, they, the fittings themselves are a little expensive but if you have a lot to do
44:55
uh you can, you can, you can do so much work in a day with these press fittings
44:59
It's remarkable. So, um yeah. Uh yeah, it's uh, it's like shark bite
45:04
That's correct. It's a lot like shark bite. Yeah, I don't, I'm not a big fan of the shark bite
45:08
Uh with uh pecs, I, I happen to like the Uponor system
45:12
So Uponor and upon or you um their pecks and to
45:21
a degree the shark bite pecks might be the same way the oop owner picks. It's got a memory
45:26
In other words, when, when the PX is made it, it, the, the
45:29
it goes, oh, I'm, I'm a half inch outer diameter and that's what I'm supposed to be
45:35
So, if you stretch the PX, it goes, wait a minute. I
45:39
I'm supposed to be a half inch, I'm not supposed to be three quarter inch
45:43
So the, the plastic goes, you know what, we're going back to a half inch
45:47
So it squeezes back down on itself. So with the oop own or pecs
45:51
there are these little expansion collars that also have a memory. You
45:55
you cut the tubing to length, you put one of the little collars on and then you use an expansion tool
46:03
I've got a video on it. I've got a video uh how to just go same thing type in how to connect PEX
46:09
how to connect Pec. My name, Tim Carter, you can watch this tool
46:13
It's really cool. It's a very, it's got the, it's like a, it looks like an ice cream cone
46:17
the bottom of a sugar cone. It's a pointed tool. But when you turn it on
46:21
on the, the teeth kind of come out. I'm sorry about the, the ink on my hands
46:25
It's a long story. All right. So uh um it's a point like this but
46:30
but they kind of expand out so they stretch, they stretch that plastic ever so much and it stays stretched for about five seconds
46:39
10 seconds, which is plenty of time for you to slide it onto the fitting
46:43
And then if you just hold it there within about 15 seconds, 20 seconds
46:47
Um, it's shrunk back down, grabbed onto the fitting and after about a minute you'll never pull it off
46:53
Never. So really great system that I, I, that's, that's what I have in my own home
46:58
That's what I put in. My daughter's home. Never, ever, ever had a leak. Never. So
47:02
uh, I don't know that you can say that about the shark bite system. Uh Yes
47:07
exactly. Yes. It bites down onto the pipe. Yep. All right, same thing. So
47:11
um All right. Um This is your last chance if you got any questions
47:17
uh any comments, put them over there in the chat. I'm happy to answer them
47:22
Uh It's um, and then once again, we, we, this is the last live stream of the week
47:27
I will do one. you know, we'll, we'll get back on it on Monday
47:31
So everybody needs a break. Um You know, here in America it's a really
47:35
really big holiday. Uh, Thanksgiving, huge. It's a huge holiday here. So
47:40
um and a lot of people traveling, big travel, travel time here in America
47:46
So luckily the weather is cooperating, not, not any really big weather delays
47:51
So, um, but anyway, just that's part of the deal. Um All right
47:55
So if you have any questions now is the time to put them in, I'll get a little bit more hot chocolate as I wait
48:00
for you to type one boy, it really hits the spot. It really does
48:09
Uh It's the last thing I need though. I'm really trying to cut down on my sugar consumption and of course the hot chocolate
48:17
Are you kidding me? Way too much uh, sugar. Uh No, we are not deep
48:23
We've never deep fried. The turkey, never done that. Um, we, we just put it in the oven
48:30
The key to the turkey at the Carter House is tomorrow probably around
48:37
I don't know, right around this time, maybe a little earlier in the day. Uh I will be
48:42
it's my job to brine the turkey. So I have to, um
48:46
uh, you know, I, I clean out, I have some brand new five gallon buckets that stains over comes in and uh fill
48:55
it with ice water. Uh put the turkey in it. We, we only just do a breast and then um Cathy puts some cut carrots
49:03
and onions and some spices and salt. A sort of quite a bit of salt actually
49:09
And the salt is what does the magic and um, and then uh it just
49:14
I put it out in the garage and um, it just brines for about a day and then it's so moist
49:21
You just cannot believe it. It's when you cut into the turkey
49:25
it like explodes with moisture and water. It's wonderful. Yeah, I talked about this the other day
49:29
People, people overcook turkeys. They don't know how to do it. They
49:34
they cook them too. They, they dry as a bone or dry an old bone
49:37
It's horrible. Uh, they do the same thing with chicken. A lot of people overcooked chicken
49:41
They just don't know how to do it. You don't need to cook chicken that long. And
49:45
uh, there's nothing worse than overcooked chicken and overcooked turkey. Uh, deep frying
49:51
Yeah. Uh, I, there's there. Yeah, you can actually go onto youtube and
49:57
uh, type into, type into youtube deep frying accidents and it's very dangerous
50:03
Uh, a lot of people have been burned seriously doing it that you have to know what you're doing. Um
50:09
yeah. Yeah, I know. We don't want to talk politics. I, I saw that news announcement
50:16
I just shook my head. Just, yes, that was all, it just go back and read the books that Alex Huxley wrote
50:24
you know, Brave New World Animal Farm. It's all coming true. All right
50:30
So, it's all I've said this before. It's all Game of Thrones stuff
50:35
If you've not read Game of Thrones, if you've not watched the movie
50:39
the TV series, the first season, you gotta do it. That, that explains everything
50:44
If you need to know what's going on. Read the first book in Game of Thrones
50:48
And here's, uh, I mean, I've got it on my business card
50:52
I've got the, the most famous quote in the Game of Thrones TV series and then the book at Queen Cersei
50:59
Queen Cersei says it to Ned Stark. Here it is. Let's see
51:04
I'll try to hold so you can read it. It's out of it. I know it's not focused. Um It says when you play the
51:09
game of Thrones, you win or you die. All right. And then she says there is no middle ground
51:17
Think about that. You know, in the old days, if you, if
51:22
if you know, like I'll give you an example like on a much smaller scale, like a marriage
51:26
So maybe you have a disagreement with your spouse. All right. So you try to come to a compromise
51:31
you know, uh as best you can. But, you know, as soon as the marriage gets to the Game of Thrones level
51:42
where one person is gonna be right and the other person not
51:46
I mean, that's what leads to divorce. I mean, that's, it's all
51:50
Everything in life is about. Game of Thrones. Yes, exactly. In 1984
51:57
Um All right, Steve, here we go. Recommendation for paint on garage
52:04
Drywall ceiling wall is pretty simple. Um, since it's a garage, I would not be
52:13
I mean, I wouldn't be spending a lot of money. I mean, it's gen generally speaking
52:18
I mean, most garages, not all, but most garages are gonna get a little torn up
52:22
And, uh, so I would be going with a vinyl acetate resin
52:27
I would be going a low, a low uh cost paints and realize this the lower the
52:33
the, the lower the prices on the paint, the, the lower the quality and the
52:38
and the cheaper the ingredients and the cheapest resin that, that you can put in a paint is
52:44
is, is vinyl acetate. All right. So that'll say it on the label most of the time
52:49
Uh So I would just buy uh very inexpensive vinyl acetate paint and same old thing
52:56
just kind of watch for them to go on sale. Uh You can generally get a really good price at um the
53:01
the big box stores or, or a national name brand uh brand like she and Williams
53:07
Um But don't, don't be buying expensive paint for the garage. Uh I would highly recommend that you prime it
53:14
Um You know, if it's brand new drywall, uh you, you want to prime it and seal it
53:20
you have to get, I've got a special column on my website about the special primers that are both a primer and a sealer
53:26
Uh There's a big difference. So re read that column on my website about priming drywall if that helps
53:33
Ok. Uh LV, teach me buy dark chocolate cocoa to make hot chocolate
53:38
You can buy eight ounce bag. Yes, that's true. I love dark chocolate. All right. So I'm a big fan of that
53:43
Um William. Uh You can choose who you want to be a moderator in your live stream
53:48
Someone who would trust and present and is present on a lot of your live stream
53:52
So, what, uh, ok. Fill in one more blank. What does the moderator do
53:56
I don't, I don't understand what the moderator does. I mean, you obviously must be moderating
54:01
The comments would be my guess. Um, uh, that's interesting. Hey, Lennon
54:08
Very cool. Uh, same place in London as Thomas Jeff's mother. Very cool
54:12
Um, it's all, it's on my bucket list. I so want to come to the UK but I don't know that now is the right
54:19
time. I, uh I don't, well, first of all, I wouldn't be allowed in
54:23
you know, here's what's crazy. I'm just say this. So I think some of these countries or blocking travel between countries if you're not vaccinated
54:33
All right. So against COVID. Www. Wait a minute. It's like, wait a minute
54:39
What about all of us that, that have got COVID and survived
54:43
So, I mean, I've got the best immunity in the world. I
54:47
it's so much better than the vaccine stuff. All right. You know, so it
54:51
it, you know, and, and you can look at my medical records and see that III I got COVID
54:57
It's a, it's on my medical records. My, I went to the doctor and it's right there
55:00
All right. So, I, I mean, I, I should be allowed in. I don't, I don't need to have the
55:04
the vaccine, the, the I call it the experimental biological agent. But anyway
55:08
um, so I, I don't think I'm coming to the UK but, you know
55:12
until all this is over, but I don't think it's ever gonna be over. So, anyway
55:15
we won't talk about it. We're not gonna talk about the virus. We're not talking politics
55:19
we're not talking about any of it. But I just think, isn't that funny how you don't
55:23
Because that's how it's traditionally been if, if you, if you know anything about science
55:27
uh, I mean, here, here's a really interesting factoid. So, two years ago
55:31
I read a really interesting book. I love reading books about how they built things
55:36
Like there's a really great book about how they built the Hoover Dam
55:40
Uh I read a book uh two years ago about how they built the Panama C
55:44
So get this when they were building the, the French started it and they
55:47
they went bankrupt. They didn't have enough money and then I think it languished for about 1010 years or so
55:52
And then the Americans came in and, and we, we, we finished the job
55:57
All right. So yellow fever was rampant down in, you know, in Panama
56:04
So yellow fever at the time at the time they did not know what was causing it
56:09
It's caused by a mosquito. All right. So, but they didn't know that back then
56:14
Get this, the mortality rate of yellow fever, the mortality rate, 50% that would put
56:23
your head on a swivel like, wow, I've got a one in two chance of dying from yellow fever
56:29
All right. So, so this, this, they didn't have any vaccines. No
56:33
didn't exist. All right. They didn't even know what caused it yet. All right. So, so you have to stop and think how
56:41
who were the doc? What was it, how was it that there were doctors and nurses in the hospitals in Panama that were able
56:50
to treat the patients? Oh, simple. They got the yellow fever. But guess what
56:59
They were on the 50% that survived. So, they were immune. They
57:04
they could get bit another 100 times. It doesn't matter. They're not gonna, they're not gonna get yellow fever again
57:09
Their body build up a natural immunity. So that's the way it's been with
57:13
with diseases all through time. So, people like me, I feel like I'm being discriminated against
57:18
you know, there's millions of us, millions and millions and millions of people around the world that they got COVID and survived
57:24
And, um, we're being discriminated against. Why, why shouldn't we be allowed to go someplace
57:28
We have a better natural immunity than all the people that are getting jabbed
57:32
All right. So, anyway, that's where you gotta put your thinking cap on
57:35
Start thinking about stuff. Don't, don't, don't just be a lemon, you know
57:41
don't, don't be a sheeple. All right. So there you go. Good for you
57:45
Lennon. Uh Yeah, you got, so Steve. Yeah, I got it too. I was
57:49
um, uh, I was pretty sick for about two weeks. You can read all about it on my website
57:54
If you go to ask the dollar.com and just type in COVID and you'll read my whole story
57:59
My wife saved my life, Cathy, saved my life. So, go read about it. Just go read the story about
58:03
It's pretty, it's pretty amazing. So, um, uh, exactly. Exactly
58:12
Right. Um, well, I suggestion you can have people will's got a thing here
58:18
You can have people, uh, um, email you questions. They may have about different types
58:24
Yeah, I try to say that on every single live stream. Well
58:27
um, William, I, I go, if you've got a question after the stream
58:32
just always go to the website. That's what I built that page for. It's called Ask Tim
58:37
So go to Ask the builder.com. It's one of the primary navigation buttons
58:41
click that button, click that link, whatever and just fill out the form
58:46
you know, I, I get a lot of them every day and, and I, I answer every single one
58:50
All right. So, uh simple as that. Um So anyway, I, here we've been on almost an hour
58:58
It's crazy. So I, I think I'll just cut it off here
59:02
I don't see any other questions about houses. Uh And if you have a quick question
59:07
type it in real fast, I'll stick on here a little bit longer to do that. Um But
59:12
um, anyway, I'd love to, uh, help you save time and money
59:17
Uh, yeah. Exactly. Right. Exactly. Just people aren't thinking they're just like it
59:23
it, it just astounds me, you know, it just astounds me. I
59:28
uh, oh, crazy. It's crazy. It's the, if you, if you wanna read what's
59:34
if you wanna understand what's going on, I'll, I'll give you this last tip. Um
59:38
II, I wrote some letters to the editor to the local papers when this all started and explaining to people
59:44
But I think it just went over their heads. Uh There's a really good book you want to read and it
59:50
when I read this book, it actually helped increase my business by about 35%
59:56
Uh So if you are in a business and you're selling products, you absolutely want to read this book
1:00:01
All right. So the title of the book is called Influence. That's the primary title
1:00:06
So influence. Think about that, that word Influence. The subtitle is The Psychology of persuasion
1:00:16
All right. So think about that, if you want to persuade somebody
1:00:20
if you want to influence somebody or you want to persuade them to do something
1:00:26
right? So you use psychology and it's very powerful, right? So, and it's that the author is Robert Cini
1:00:34
CIA Ldin. I Robert Cini, I'm telling you read this book and then you will understand
1:00:43
what's happening in the media no matter where you are about any topic, it doesn't matter
1:00:47
It could, it could even be home improvement. I'm serious. All right
1:00:52
So, um, uh, a actually it does kind of directly go back to
1:00:57
um, what I talked about earlier about some of these other websites where their tool
1:01:03
review websites and if you go to 10 of these different tool
1:01:06
review websites and, and each of the websites says that the, here I just pull this and we
1:01:14
we talked about this about a week ago that they say, oh, wow. You know the Klein
1:01:19
uh you know the Klein um 56 4, 12, decline, 56 4 12
1:01:25
It's the best flashlight in the world. Best flashlight in the world
1:01:29
You know, you've seen five or 10 websites say that you might go
1:01:34
wow. I think I better buy one of those client flashlights. But what you may not know is that
1:01:42
um, maybe the person who wrote that doesn't know squat about flashlights or maybe
1:01:49
maybe they have some o some other secret thing going on. All right. I'm not saying they do
1:01:52
I'm just saying maybe, all right. But that's one of the psychological triggers. It's called social proof
1:01:57
So, um that's the second most powerful psychological trigger out there. The most powerful is scarcity
1:02:03
You wanna get somebody to do something, you, you push the scarcity button
1:02:09
That's why we waterboard prisoners. Think about it. You waterboard somebody. What
1:02:16
what are you taking away from them? They start singing like a canary
1:02:20
read the book influence the psychology of persuasion, it will change your life for the better just so
1:02:28
you know, for the better. All right. Uh Let's see if there's any quick um questions here
1:02:34
Uh William says I go to a lot of live streams and everyone has moderators
1:02:38
like I said, just to keep it clean, trolls will eventually come in and say, yeah
1:02:41
OK. Good, good point. Um What I'm gonna have to do is I will have to start a discussion off list
1:02:48
Um You know, via email with, with you or with, with anyone else who wants to potentially become a moderator
1:02:56
So you, you know, you, we have to move that conversation off list
1:03:00
We can't have it here. All right. So just thank you for bringing it up and I agree at some point
1:03:05
I, I have noticed just, you know, one day I was playing with this and I'll just say this very fast like I can highlight
1:03:10
I can go over to Lennon's um one of his comments, there's three dots that show up on my end
1:03:15
I don't know that this shows up on your end, but I can click those three dots and I get choices like I can pin
1:03:21
a message, I can report it. I can remove it. I can put the user in a time out and I can hide the user
1:03:27
And of course, here's one it says add moderator. So exactly. So that's how I can add people as moderator
1:03:32
Ok, so I see that now. Right. But anyway, um I'm just trying to close that out
1:03:37
I don't want to, I don't want to do, I don't want to do anything. All right
1:03:41
I don't want to lose the comments. All right. So, uh we need to move the discussion about moderators off list
1:03:46
So do that. Um, remember that Milwaukee heated jacket? Yes, I do
1:03:51
I would. Um boy, great question. How much do they cost of that? I don't know
1:03:55
I don't, um, you know, I'm really bad with prices. I don't keep up on it because they just change all the time
1:04:01
I would just go to Amazon, uh, Lennon and just look it up
1:04:05
But I, I'm gonna guess I'll, I'll take a guess. I would guess that one of those heated jackets I could be way off
1:04:13
Uh, I'm gonna guess it's 100 bucks, $100. Just be a guess
1:04:18
Um, all right. What is it? Uh, so Williams got, what's the difference between cement and concrete
1:04:23
That's a great question. A lot of people use the word cement. They go, I've got a cement driveway and I
1:04:28
I know what they're saying. I know what they mean. And it's just, um, it's
1:04:32
uh, it's a ized use of that word. So cement is the true thing of cement
1:04:41
Some, I mean, think of, think of this, think here's how to explain it. Think of if I
1:04:45
if we, if I was to go get a bottle of rubber cement. What is that
1:04:50
What, what does rubber cement, do you know? It, it binds two things together
1:04:55
Like if you brush rubber cement on two pieces of paper and you stick them together
1:05:00
they're gonna stick together. Ok. So that's interesting. If, so what's concrete got in it
1:05:05
What are the, what are the four ingredients of concrete? There's only, and, and basic concrete
1:05:09
There's only four, right. What are they? Let's name them? There's stones
1:05:14
there's sand, there's water and what's the last one? It's gray. It's got a P
1:05:21
it's a powder. Portland cement. All right. So here's what's interesting if you take rocks
1:05:29
sand and water and mix them together, do they stick together? No
1:05:34
I mean, go down to the beach, go to the beach and right at the surf line
1:05:39
you know, you can pick up sand where the water comes up and hold sand
1:05:42
It's got water in it. Maybe some stones and it just all falls apart. So
1:05:46
the Portland cement is what causes it all to stick together. All right
1:05:52
So, uh that's the difference. So, cement is cement and concrete is a
1:05:58
a mixture of sand, gravel, water and Portland cement. And the, the um
1:06:04
I'll just tell you this very quickly. A lot of people don't know this. So the ratio
1:06:09
the general ratio is three measures of rock, two measures of sand
1:06:16
one measure of Portland cement. And then you weigh that, you wait
1:06:22
let's just say you, you, you weigh all that together and it weighs 1000 pounds
1:06:27
All right, we'll just say that. Um So then uh I'm sorry
1:06:32
uh uh uh you, you, here's what happens, you weigh the amount of cement that is in the mix
1:06:39
in that one measure and when you go to mix everything together
1:06:43
you generally only would put in 0.45 the amount of the weight of water
1:06:51
of what your cement is, it's called the water to cement ratio
1:06:55
Look that up on Google, you never want to put too much water in it
1:07:00
It, it, it will weaken the, the concrete. Uh, it's just, it's so complex
1:07:03
You can't believe it. Scientists devote their entire life to at the topic
1:07:08
All right. Um, Steve production. We've got options but only to report and block
1:07:13
Not as many as you. Yeah, exactly. I got a lot of options. Um
1:07:17
got it. Yeah, exactly. So I can add people as moderators. So, anyway
1:07:21
like I said, um, if you want to be a moderator, convince me why you should be a moderator
1:07:28
You know, you, you have to do it via email. We're probably gonna have to have a phone call
1:07:32
I'm happy to do that. Or, uh, you know, Skype call if, if you're over in England
1:07:36
what whatever. Um, but, but I agree, I think as the live stream gets more popular
1:07:42
um, the, there is, there's no doubt that we're gonna have, uh I'm gonna have haters co come here and
1:07:50
and, and start hating on me. II, I get that, I get that all the time on my youtube video
1:07:54
So I, I know it's gonna happen here. It hasn't happened here yet. And same thing
1:07:57
the moderators would, um, um, you know, if all of a sudden somebody went off the rails
1:08:03
you know, with political stuff, we, we don't want that here. Political stuff is not gonna help this live stream
1:08:07
I, I'm not, if you wanna talk politics, I've already said this. Go, there must be 100 other live streams
1:08:13
people doing politics and, and, and it's really kind of a waste of time, right
1:08:18
Just think about this. When was the last time you were in a discussion with somebody about politics and they convinced you that you were
1:08:26
wrong? I'm sure it's never happened. So why do you think that you're ever gonna convince somebody else that they're wrong
1:08:34
It just anyway, so it's, it's not gonna happen. So, uh yes
1:08:41
Hit the like button. Yeah, please. Yeah. Hit the like button if you like what you're hearing here. So, you know what
1:08:45
We've been on an hour and eight minutes. It's crazy. I uh you can tell from my smile
1:08:49
I'm having a good time doing this and I'm sorry that, that, that they're not always hardcore home improvement
1:08:55
Uh, but I feel it's really important for you, uh, to get to see the other side of me that
1:09:01
that you don't get to see it in a regular video. I mean, you just don't, you know
1:09:05
I like doing the regular videos too but they're, you know, and I've had some fun in some of them
1:09:10
You know, there's, we've done some funny videos but, uh, um, you know
1:09:14
generally speaking, they're, they're more, they're, they're just, they're, you know, they're
1:09:20
they're not, they're not a live stream. All right. So, uh, thank you very much
1:09:24
William. Uh I, I enjoy doing them and I think they're just gonna get better and better and like I said
1:09:29
I'm working on, um getting a much better background. I'm actually thinking about relocating during the live streams down in my basement
1:09:38
uh, where I could have a real, in this other room where I can have a really nice background
1:09:42
Uh, it'll allow me to, to do a little bit more, uh
1:09:46
in, in some of the demonstrations and I just think it's gonna be a better, it's gonna end up being a better product
1:09:51
But, um, you know, so anyway, um, I know you have to put up with my background now
1:09:56
It's, it's horrible. It is what it is. Uh You're not here for the background
1:09:59
hopefully you're here for me. Ok, I'm gonna go, uh, I hope you
1:10:03
if you're here in America, I hope you have a great Thanksgiving. Uh, we're gonna have a great one here
1:10:08
Uh, the only thing, the only reason it won't be super great is because my oldest daughter
1:10:12
her husband and my granddaughter are gonna be up at their house in Maine
1:10:16
uh, up on Mount Desert Island and, and we're gonna be here

Uh, we were all together last Thanksgiving. But what's gonna happen is we're gonna go visit them for Christmas
1:10:26
So, uh, it was just kind of a hardship to, to go up there twice
1:10:30
you know, so, so close together. All right. So, uh oh, well
1:10:36
that's, uh, that's, it's, you know, Ozzie is allowed to press the button if he wants
1:10:40
It doesn't matter. I mean, I just so, you know, I, I upload a regular video
1:10:47
whatever it might be and then I, I look at the likes and dislikes and
1:10:51
and, and let's say I, I put together a really pretty good video. I mean, it's like I work hard on it and it's got
1:10:56
a lot of great information and there's people that dislike it and I just want to ask them
1:11:02
um, what did you like about it? I mean, what, you know
1:11:06
just, I, I don't know, it's impossible to satisfy everybody. I already know that I get that
1:11:11
Ok, I get that. Yeah, thank you. Will. Uh It's gonna be a great
1:11:16
great turkey. Oh my gosh, I'll uh it's gonna be a great turkey. Uh Thanks William
1:11:20
Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving to you too. All Right. I'm gonna go, uh, have a great Thanksgiving
1:11:25
Let's take five days off, you know, Wednesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
1:11:29
Sunday. Yeah, five days and, uh, I'll be back Monday and we'll have a
1:11:34
uh, we'll have a really good time. I'll, I'll, I'll, uh, we'll
1:11:38
we'll cover some type of tool on Monday. I just don't know what it's gonna be yet, but we're gonna do over the next 30
1:11:43
days. We'll do a lot of different tools and like I said, we're gonna be getting some new ones coming in and I'll
1:11:47
I'll absolutely showcase those. All right, Lennon. Good night, buddy. Uh Thanks so much for being here at night
1:11:54
I, I know it's late over there. So it's, it's got to be 10 after 1012 minutes after 10 over there in the UK
1:12:00
You're five hours ahead. Uh And you're exactly right. If you don't like the live stream
1:12:04
don't watch it. That's exactly right. All right. Thanks very much for being here. I really
1:12:08
really appreciate it. Remember anytime you have a suggestion of what I can do to make the live stream better
1:12:14
let me know. You know, I've got thick skin, I'm, I'm new at this and I just want them to be as good as possible
1:12:19
All right, if you're in America, have a great Thanksgiving. Those of you who don't celebrate Thanksgiving have a turkey dinner
1:12:27
Anyway. It's delicious. Just brine the turkey first. All right, for 24 hours and ice water with salt carrots and onions
1:12:36
You'll love it. All right. I'll be back on Monday. Bye
