i want to show you something for uh you
0:03
uh young carpenters and remodelers Uh
0:06
you might not have seen anything like
0:08
this before So this let me show you
0:10
where we are First of all we're in an
0:12
entrance hall This is a simple coat
0:15
closet Here's the front door Um this is
0:19
going to be a box for a fiber internet
0:23
connection It was the only easy way to
0:26
get the fiber optic cable from way
0:28
across the gar garage into the house And
0:31
it's actually a perfect location because
0:33
it's very centrally located So the modem
0:36
is going to do a really good job here
0:39
Okay Instead of framing this out of 2x4s
0:44
and trying to drywall that that little
0:46
recess I decided to build a box out of
0:49
3/4 inch plywood This entire area here
0:53
on top of this closet is a big void
0:55
space because it's a big vated ceiling
0:58
in this room So I was really lucky that
1:01
there was this huge space to be able to
1:03
do this And of course I cut out the
1:05
drywall There's a wall stud here and
1:08
then there was a wall stud here So I
1:10
just made the box fit between them So
1:12
it's about 24 in wide 16 in high and a
1:15
foot deep All right And I uh went ahead
1:20
and what you're seeing here is I just
1:21
put the corner bead on and coated it
1:24
with Durabondon 20 which is a dry
1:26
setting joint compound It sets up very
1:28
quickly I did that about a half an hour
1:30
ago So it's going to be ready to wet
1:32
sand here very shortly And then here's
1:34
the real trick So I took some of the
1:37
excess and I coated the side walls of
1:40
the plywood and filled in the grain with
1:43
the Durabond And it's very sticky And
1:46
when I coat all of the plywood which I'm
1:48
going to do uh it will look just like
1:50
drywall when it's finished All right so
1:53
when you're on the ground once it's
1:54
painted yellow again you're going to
1:57
think that this was made with drywall
1:58
But guess what it only took me 40
2:01
minutes to make the box All right from
2:03
scratch And I had the box installed in
2:07
about 10 minutes Uh another half hour to
2:10
uh put in the electric and the fiber
2:12
optic uh cable and conduit Uh and the
2:15
whole point I'm trying to make is if you
2:17
know what you're doing you could do a
2:19
job like this start to finish in one day
2:21
The key is to use the dry setting joint
2:24
compound that sets up very very rapidly
2:28
and it allows you to put multiple coats
2:30
on in just a couple of hours All right
2:32
so I hope that was helpful Hope you
2:34
learned a little trick here that uh use
2:37
plywall You don't always have to use
2:38
drywall You don't always have to use
