Good afternoon. I'm Tim Carter, and I'm glad you're here. It is, what is it, Thursday, March 3rd, 2022
0:16
We're already 10% finished with March, just about. Hard to believe. The day is just marched by. How are you today
0:24
Pretty soon in just a few minutes, we're going to be talking about how to clean a deck. I could probably talk about that topic for two or three hours, and you might have some really good questions about how to clean a deck
0:34
I can think of a couple of them. What's the best cleaner? What about power washers
0:41
What about deck sealers? Like once it's clean, what the deal with sealing it
0:46
How often should you clean a deck? What's the easiest way to keep a deck clean
0:52
Why does Mildu get on decks? Those are all kinds of great questions
0:57
questions you could ask. So you should start, you should start typing your questions in
1:07
Charles Almonds Almond are bad I um you know I don know what my um second I guess peanuts would be my second nut choice You know the nuts are um they got such a good some of them have such
1:25
very distinct flavors, but cashews by far are my favorite, not of all. Um, really, I love cashews
1:36
And nuts are good for you. All right. They're, they're, they're pretty good. I just remember as a kid, I'll tell you real quickly
1:45
I didn't live too far away from Crossley Field in Cincinnati. It was down in the Mill Creek Valley
1:51
It was one of the old baseball fields for the Cincinnati Reds
1:57
And I remember my dad would take me to a couple of baseball games when I was small
2:05
And there was a guy named Peanut Jim. You could probably, I swear, if you look on Google images and type in Peanut Jim Cincinnati
2:15
my guess would be somebody has uploaded photos of this guy. So he was an old gentleman, and he wore a top hat and tails
2:23
and he had his own little cart that he stood outside the baseball stadium and he sold roasted peanuts that he roasted himself
2:36
So it was, I don't remember that my dad and I ever bought any, but you just couldn't miss
2:41
this guy. So peanut gym, that's what he was called. Josh, cash is related to poison
2:48
I did not know that. I hope my mouth doesn't start itching. It never has before
2:52
Hello, Louise. We've got the pretty much regular gang here. That's amazing. All right. Without further ado
3:01
let's talk about how to clean a deck, all right? As you might expect with many things
3:08
there's a right way and a wrong way. And remember, ask questions as we go in case I'm going to try to
3:16
basically debunk some myths. It's going to be, I think it's going to be very, I think you're going to
3:21
I'm pretty certain. going to discover something here really quickly. Number one, let's talk about pressure
3:28
washers and why pressure washers are a bad idea. And I've got some really good columns on
3:34
a website about this. If you go to askthebiller.com and just type in pressure washer, you find them You need to understand before you think about using a pressure washer it really important to understand wood and how trees grow
3:52
And when you have that understanding, you then will think twice about using a pressure washer
4:00
So right now, here in the northern hemisphere, March 1st, the trees, well, in certain areas
4:09
like certain areas down south, they've already woken up. I mean, they woke up a month or two ago, like way down south
4:16
Here in New Hampshire, they're just starting to wake up. And the sap's going to start running
4:25
And the tree is going to, in other words, all winter long
4:29
understand that the sap has been stored in the ground in the root system
4:34
And then when the temperature is just right and the sun's up, the sap starts to run
4:38
So the tree starts to send this, you know, calls for the sap and the sap starts to go
4:44
starts to go up, you know, and fill out into the branches so that it can start to grow leaves
4:50
All right. So tree, I mean, trees, you're actually pretty amazing. I mean, think about that
4:56
Think about the amount of energy it takes to get that sap
