Hi, I'm Tim Carter from AskTheBuilder.com. I'm here at a new home construction site in New Hampshire and I want to show you something that's kind of cool. It's like a little bit of detective work. Here, come here, look at this. See this sawdust right here on the floor? You know what that's caused by? You know what happened? You know, you wonder, like you can just see the subfloor here
0:26
Well, that tells you that something used to be there. Something got sawed out of there
0:31
Well, I'll show you what it was. Come with me. Watch where we're going to go
0:35
Okay, we're here at another door opening, and look at this. This is the bottom plate of the wall right here. Here, come down a little bit. I want to show you something
0:45
So look at this. This bottom plate runs all the way across the wall. You can see it over there
0:51
and what it does, this is what helps keep the legs of the door so they don't get into
0:58
a helix, meaning if you tried to frame this door without this being in place, this leg
1:05
of the door might be in, this leg of the door might be out, you know, the one behind me
1:10
and that's going to make it really hard for you to actually install the door and keep the
1:15
the door plumbing in the jam. So by keeping the wall plate in place when you frame the
1:22
wall, it helps keep all of the studs in the same line. It's that simple. I'm Tim Carter
