Hey, how you doing? Come here second. Hi, I'm Tim Carter from Ask the Builder.com. I've got a little problem
0:09
I'm on this job. The homeowners want to put in a sink in this location. And the actual drain and vent line for that sink is going to be right here in this stud cavity
0:19
And the plumbing code requires that the vent pipe for this new drain make a cross right about here to connect to the existing vent line that vents
0:30
the shower drain. But the problem is this copper water line's right in the way. Look at this copper line
0:35
So I thought originally, wow, I'm going to have to cut this, solder it, move that copper
0:40
water line around this vent line. Uh-uh. That's too much work. There has to be an easier way
0:45
So I looked up and watch this. There's nothing wrong with sliding this white pipe all the way
0:51
up here, up here, and look, all of a sudden, right here, there's no more copper water line
0:56
and I can drill through these two studs just like I was going to do below and make the connection up here to the other vent line Well that good news Here why because the plumbing code allows me to make that
1:07
connection as high up as I want to. The lesson I want you to learn from this is that when you're
1:12
faced with a similar situation, don't get frustrated, just stop and think it through and look at
1:18
what all your options might be. Talk to your local inspectors and see if you can't make a connection
1:23
at another location that meets the code. It's that simple. I don't know about you, but I've got to get back to work
