Hi, I'm Tim Carter from AskTheBuilder.com and I want to show you a garden pond, a fish pond
0:10
maybe you want to call it, with a waterfall and basically how it's constructed. I just cleaned
0:15
this one out and because the water level is not filled up all the way, you can really start to
0:20
explain some of the features of the pond. Let's take a look at the pond right now. Okay, here it
0:25
is this is a pond and it's really pretty nice and you can see the waterfall is working
0:36
and the water level it's down well over halfway this amount of water right here is probably about
0:44
a foot deep and you can see the bottom right there well because the reflection is a little hard
0:51
but understand that there were some levels here put in and you can see that flat area that the
0:59
rocks are sitting on and right here is another little flat ledge right there and the liner of
1:08
this pond is just a big giant sheet of rubber roofing commercial roofing and the person who
1:14
installed and built this pond they just dug a hole in the ground and shaped the earth the way
1:21
that they wanted it to be, and they just laid this big rubber liner in. And of course, the rubber
1:26
liner comes up over the edge of the pond, and you can see right here, I exposed some of it so you
1:34
could see where it kind of folds over so that the water doesn't fall back behind the liner
1:41
But the water level, when the pond's filled, comes right up to about these little rocks right here
1:47
So it still got another good 16 inches of water that needs to come in Underneath this big flat piece of slate is the pump that is making the waterfall go and you can actually see the water line black rubber
2:04
hose because it'll be pretty much invisible once the water's filled up. And it goes to another
2:10
pipe that goes through the soil up you can see right there in the center of the frame
2:16
the pipe again and it goes back up behind that big rock and it flows out over another piece of slate
2:23
Now one of the really neat features is the way that this pond gets water right here, every time
2:31
it rains it gets a new shot of new water that comes off the roof. That's just a downspout and
2:35
that helps keep the pond filled with water and the dry spirits and works really pretty well
2:45
well. So that's how you build a pond. Not too tough. I'm Tim Carter for AskTheBuilder.com
