Good afternoon. I am Tim Carter. This is Ask the Builder, streaming live. It's great to cheer
0:10
And it's going to be a short live stream. I want to let you know right away. I've got to get out of here
0:19
I'm going to sign off at 425 and I have to have to be someplace at 5 o'clock. So I talk
0:29
going to take me a while to get there. That's the problem here in New Hampshire where I live. You can't, I mean, the shortest distance I can travel to get anywhere, to get, to buy anything
0:40
I'm serious, to buy a flipping candy bar. The shortest distance, shortest time would be
0:50
I don't know, 18 minutes. Isn't that crazy? All right, here we go
1:00
here we go, uh, eight-bit vinyl. We're going to talk about tape measures in just a second. You're
1:04
feeling about the tape measure so they have the big stud hooks on the ends, Milwaukee made one a few years
1:09
ago but now discontinued I don know why Um yeah I I got so many I must have I got must I got a giant toolcase you know the type that auto mechanics use down in my garage
1:22
And one of the really big drawers, it's just completely filled with tape measures, all different types
1:30
Some of them are, one of them is one that's probably 30 years old that I used when I was building
1:35
But I've got a lot of tape measures. So let's talk about tape measures right now. So today's live stream just, you know, is brought to you by this really interesting company
1:42
They've been around a while, e-tape. This is not necessarily a new tape measure, but they just reached out to me
1:51
And I want to show you a couple of them. You know, they've got a little bit different displays
1:57
It's the same company, but there's different models. But I want to tell you a story about this
2:02
So here's, just so you get excited about it. So here's the tape measure. You think, okay, Tim, big deal
2:08
Yeah, yeah, yeah, here's the tape, big deal, blah, blah, blah. Well, watch what happens
2:13
You know, I know that lit up. So when you pull this out, it turns on and there's a display, and I know it can be kind of hard to read, but I'm probably going it upside down
2:23
But it reading the exact distance that the tape has pulled out And what interesting about this it really funny I been building for so long that I
2:37
I just assume that everyone knows how to read a tape measure
2:42
And that's not the case. In fact, when we were building a buddy of mine that was a fellow carpenter
2:49
we used to play a game where we would take the fractions and make them bigger and
2:54
bigger. You know, in other words, in other words, if you had to cut a piece of lumber four
3:00
and an eighth inches long, you know, he'd be up on a ladder and say, I need something that's
3:06
I need something that's four and eight 64th, you know, so you'd have to do that math, you know
3:11
because it was just, we had a lot of fun with it. Or he'd say, I need a four and 16, 128s
3:19
you know, things like that, just six, you know, four and 32, 256th, you know, I mean
3:24
crazy. That's the kind of fun we would have. Well, some, you know, we could do it, but most people
3:31
they look at those little numbers, the little lines on the tape measures, and they freak out
3:35
Well guess what This you don have to worry about it anymore This does it for you I mean look let me get it out here This one I think has a little bit clear clear because it not blue So look at that So you know four and nine I mean
3:51
it tells you. All right. And here's what's cool. So it has all types of memories. So I can
3:58
memorize that. I can push this button right here and memorize that, that dimension if I have to
4:04
It's got two memories. One of the really cool things about this tape measure
4:08
sometimes, it's not all that often, but you have to divide that in two
4:13
You would go for whatever reason, because you want to split a piece of plywood or whatever
4:17
So remember, it's reading 4 and 9.16th right now. So if I push this button right here, watch what happens
4:25
If I push and hold it. Let me see here. There we go
4:33
So it does the math. And so what it is, it's split it in half, two and a quarter
4:38
So very interesting tape measure. It's really interesting. And here's the true story
4:46
When I got these tape measures about two weeks ago, the company reached out to me maybe three weeks ago
4:53
asked me if I'd be interested. I said, sure, send a couple of them along
4:57
Let me look at them. They..
