A lot of people have trouble producing really nice smooth joints in corners in either brand
0:11
new drywall work or possibly a remodel job that you might be doing around your home. I'm going to
0:15
share today some really good tricks that are going to help you get perfectly smooth joints
0:20
every single time. First thing you need to do is start with the right consistency in your drywall
0:26
mud. You don't want to use it straight out of the bucket because it's basically too thick
0:31
You mix just a little bit of water to make it creamy like cake icing. The next thing
0:35
you need to do is make sure that the knife that you use has been tooled. Now what does
0:41
that mean? I'll tell you what. If you buy a brand new knife, often the edges of the
0:45
knife or the corners are way too sharp and they will easily cut the tape as you go ahead
0:50
and apply it. Take a simple file and go ahead and round the edges off. I like to use a knife
0:56
that's extremely worn and it really never, never tears the tape whatsoever. Next thing you need to
1:02
do is to make sure that you put just a little bit of mud in the corner. You don't want to fill the
1:07
whole knife up with mud. Just half the knife and apply it in one smooth motion. Do it on both sides
1:13
of the corner and then you go ahead and embed your tape. What you do then is go ahead and gently
1:19
streak out the mud, making sure you hold your knife at an angle. And as you do that, the mud
1:25
will flow very evenly out from beyond the tape. Don't do it two or three times. Once
1:30
is usually enough. Second time only if you have to. If you take too much mud out of the
1:35
corner, the tape will eventually fall out and we don't want that to happen. See? There's
1:41
nothing to it. If you want to discover more home improvement tips, go to askthebuilder.com
