Hi, I'm Tim Carter from AskTheBuilder.com and I'm here at a great new construction job
0:09
site in New Hampshire. And I'm in a garage right now, believe it or not, that's being
0:13
built. It doesn't even have a roof on it. You can see it above. No roof, no anything
0:17
But at least the walls are framed. And I want to show you a couple of neat things about
0:22
the design of this garage that you should keep in mind when you build your next garage
0:27
no matter if it's attached to the house or detached. Come here and look at this
0:32
First thing is, you may have to come around a little bit because you can really see this
0:38
Okay, notice here we are in the inside corner of the garage
0:42
Here's the garage opening. Here's where the car is going to come into the garage right here
0:47
First of all, nice wide opening, 10 feet wide. Works perfect for bigger pickup trucks, SUVs, things like that
0:55
Never make a garage door less than nine feet if you can. But here's the key thing
1:00
On most garages, you'll notice that the distance from the garage door opening to the inside
1:06
corner is usually two feet. By the time you put in garbage cans bicycles whatever it might be as soon as you get into the garage and open the door you just banging the garage door into it Notice here it about
1:19
four feet, so that's perfect. Add that to the extra wide opening. When they pull in
1:25
the garage here, they're going to be able to completely open the doors of their cars
1:30
and not bump into anything. That's really important. Second, let's look at this. Look
1:35
Look how deep this garage is. It just keeps going and going and going, probably 26 feet deep
1:42
You wouldn't think that's important, but it is. Here's why. I'm sure at the end of the day, at this end of the garage, they're going to have a workbench
1:51
whatever, so even with a workbench, they're going to be able to pull the vehicles in and
1:55
have plenty of room. So keep those things in mind when you design and when you build your next garage
