A pot filler is a really cool idea at a kitchen cooktop like this
0:05
Can you see how a pot filler faucet can save your back by allowing you to fill the pot right
0:11
here at the cooktop instead of having to carry it in the kitchen sink
0:16
Hi I'm Tim Carter from AskTheBuilder.com and in the next 90 seconds you're going to discover
0:20
how easy and simple it is to install a pot filler faucet
0:29
Since pot filler faucets are made by different companies, it is mandatory that you read and
0:34
understand the written instructions that come with the pot filler you decide to use
0:38
The pot filler I'm installing connects to the water supply line with a threaded brass nipple
0:44
Before the drywall and tile was installed, I soldered a special brass fitting onto my
0:50
copper water supply pipe. The brass nipple screws into this fitting. My instructions call for a hidden retention ring to be installed
0:59
You have to temporarily install the pot filler faucet on the nipple so you can center the hidden retention ring
1:07
When marking the holes that must be drilled, be sure a hole is not on top of the copper water line behind the wall
1:15
My water line feeds straight up from the floor. Here's where you might make a rookie mistake
1:21
sake. You might want to go ahead and put this retention ring on now, and if you do that
1:25
you're not going to be able to get the pipe thread sealant on these threads. You need
1:29
to put the pipe thread sealant on now before we screw the ring to the wall. Before the
1:34
retention ring is screwed to the wall, you need to apply a sealant on the nipple threads
1:40
I like to use Teflon pipe thread compound. Be sure to install any supplied rubber or foam
1:47
washers between the retention ring and the finished wall surface Once the retention ring is in place a small allen screw connects the ring to the nipple
1:58
It is now time to install the pot filler faucet. The decorative escutcheon plate needs to slide over the end of the faucet
2:05
Carefully thread the faucet onto the nipple. A special rubber strap wrench is used to tighten the faucet to the nipple
2:14
These wrenches will not harm the faucet. use a pipe wrench or channel lock pliers for this task. The teeth on the wrenches will
2:22
bite into the soft faucet metal and cause permanent damage to the finish. Use a small
2:28
level to make sure the pot filler arms are level. Install the tiny Allen screw under
2:34
the decorative escutcheon plate to complete the job. Check it out! Here it is. It's all
2:39
finished. One last tip though. Before you turn the water on the first time, you've got
2:45
take off the tip and that aerator because if you don't what'll happen is all of the
2:51
nasty flux and copper shavings will clog up the inside of this fitting you don't
2:56
want that to happen. Let's put the aerator back on and see if the faucet works
3:00
Uh-oh, two valves on pot fillers. I'm Tim Carter
