Hi, I'm Tim Carter from AskTheBuilder.com, and I want to talk a little bit about some really
0:08
interesting exterior trim boards. They're made from plastic, but I want you to look at this
0:14
See this corner board right here? This is actually plastic trim, but it looks just like, you know
0:22
normal painted wood trim. You can see that it's a full three-quarter inch thick, and it can be
0:29
used, you know, to surround windows, you know, and doors, and it nails and installs
0:36
just like regular wood trim. And here's the cool part, you can actually paint it
0:41
So this here is the same material, it's painted a dark green, but it's painted
0:47
with a very, very special paint that's made for plastic trim, and even
0:54
the pigments are formulated uh... for the plastic trim so that the material doesn overheat if it uh put in the sun but it really best if you gonna paint this material to make you paint it a lighter color I able to get away with painting it this dark green because believe it or not this trim is rarely going to get in
1:15
direct sunlight. This particular face of the shed right here, of this structure
1:19
it actually faces north, and you can see that it's deep in the woods on all the
1:27
other three sides so it's not going to get that much sunlight on it. But
1:34
understand that you can use the trim you know around windows and you can use it
1:41
up there you know as the fascia you know on the for the gutter boards you can
1:47
use it everywhere you know trim on on any kind of a structure all of that trim
1:52
there is this wonderful plastic plastic trim so it's really really a
1:58
fascinating product it looks really really great and of course the best part
2:02
is it not gonna rot you know because it plastic and one final thing understand that it does have a pretty significant expansion contraction coefficient and that means that you know you have to pay attention to the instructions when you install it
2:20
so that, you know, it expands as it gets warmer and it contracts as it gets colder
2:24
and you have to account for that. It's not that hard to do, but just read the installation instructions
2:30
I also wanted to let you know that this trim comes in all different thicknesses
2:34
It comes in different widths and different lengths. just about any imaginable size that you need, it's probably going to be available in
2:42
So I would highly recommend taking a look at it, especially if you're in a situation
2:46
where you're putting up fiber cement siding, where you're trying to go for a low maintenance
2:51
option, especially if you want to have white trim. Oh my goodness, I mean, this is a really
2:58
really great product because you put it in, never going to have to paint it at all
3:02
so if it's best if you want white so plastic trim really really a good product this particular trim
3:09
that I put on this project was made by a zek a zek so check it out see what you think I can tell you that I loved the way that it installed It cuts very easily It was very easy to install using just standard fasteners
3:26
I think it's going to look very good for many, many years. I'm Tim Carter for AskTheBuilder.com
