Okay, recently I showed you how easy it was to take out a window in preparation of getting ready
0:10
to put a brand new one in. Well, putting a new window in is a little harder, but it's not too
0:15
bad if you follow a few easy steps. Now, one of the things that you have to realize is that glass
0:20
is very heavy. You can't hardly move around a big window like this if the glass is in place. So start
0:25
the process by taking the panes of glass or the sashes out of the frame. Once it's out, now you
0:31
can move the frame about pretty easily. The thing you want to do then is make sure you take the
0:35
window frame over, gently tilt it into place, and then we're going to start the process to make sure
0:41
that the frame is level on the bottom and the sides are plumb. Now, once you get it roughly in
0:48
place with some shims holding it there, then you go ahead and pop the glass back in. Now, why is
0:54
that because the frames, the sashes, actually will help square up the window. Go ahead, put all the
0:59
panes back in, check along the bottom of the windows to make sure that the reveal is the same
1:04
and then get ready to go ahead and nail it. Use some long 10 or 12 penny finish nails in through
1:10
the sides jams. You need to put at least three per side. Check the manufacturer's specifications
1:15
for nailing. Now what you want to go ahead and do is pack insulation along the sides, bottom
1:20
on top of the window and then you finish out the outside with some special tape to stop
1:25
air infiltration. Yeah well see, you just put this magic tape on, follow a few easy steps
1:37
and putting in windows is not as hard as you might think. Just take your time, follow the
1:42
instructions, all will go well. I'm Tim Carter. If you want to discover more home improvement
