I'm getting ready to hang this vintage Victorian wallpaper
0:18
Isn't it gorgeous? Well, you know what's going to make the job go really fast and easy
0:22
It's because I'm going to use the right tools. Let me show you what tools I like to use when I install wallpaper
0:29
You know, the basic tools I use to hang wallpaper are a tape measure, a razor knife, a variety
0:34
of metal knife blades, levels, a smoothing brush or plastic smoothing tool, and a large synthetic sponge
0:43
It's really important to get the right razor knife. I love the ones that come with scored blades that snap off when you need to have a perfectly
0:52
sharp edge to make a critical cut. Dull razor blades will tear wet wallpaper
0:58
The metal knife blades are used to hold the paper tight against places where the paper is
1:03
going to be cut like a ceiling or woodwork of any type
1:08
You need to use a level to ensure the wallpaper's plumb each time you come out of an inside
1:12
corner or you start a new piece of paper on a wall
1:16
Sometimes you may have to use a small little torpedo level to plumb a piece above a window
1:21
or a door The smoothing brush or plastic smoothing tool its job is to remove all the airbusiness bubbles that are in the paper and it also helps to actually push down the paper on the edges
1:34
This is really important so that you get invisible seams. I use a regular sponge to wipe off all excess glue from the paper and any adjacent surfaces
1:44
Rinse the sponge frequently and change the water often. You've got to make sure that there's no glue on the paper and no glue on the paper
1:52
glue on any of the painted woodwork. Oh, I forgot to tell you about a couple of their important tools
2:01
You're going to probably need a paint brush, maybe a paint roller, a rolling pan to apply the wallpaper paste or the paste activator in case you're working with pre-pasted wallpaper
2:12
I love the paste activators. They're really fantastic. One other thing, you need to have a flat surface to either paste on and cut your paper
2:21
It can be a nice wallpaper table like this that collapses down
2:25
or if you just want to use a nice clean piece of plywood
2:28
even on two to overturn garbage cans, that's fine. Just remember, you need a big area to put that paper out on
