I'm getting my outside faucets hooked into my water softener because the faucet in my garage is part of these, and I want to be able to wash my car with soft water. I can bypass the water softener if I use any of the outside faucets for anything else. I don't use any of the outside faucets much at all (except for washing my car) because I have another line for an irrigation system that is not hooked up to the water softener. I am getting ready to power wash my wood deck. Should I use soft water for this job, or is there no benefit and I would just be wasting my soft water? Thanks!

I just moved into a house with a water softener and i have no papers for it. I don't know anything about them and I was wondering how do I know when it is time to fill it and how much salt to put in.

Can a water softener cope with mains pressurised system such as a Megaflo? Or do you just get the 10litre or so capacity of soft water & then hard when you use more than 10 litres in one go?

My house is not plummbed for a water softner, I have already put new bibs for outside use. Can the water softner inlet and outlet come from and to the hot water heater?

RE: softwater system placemet

the outlet from the softwater system goes to the inlet of the water heater.

Tim

I know I need a water softner, May house is not plumed for one. I have a national co. going to install one. However I am confuesd aabout one thing. Everything that I Have read says to install the unit on the main BEFORE it goes into the house but NOT to the outdoor faucets. I also understand that as one wouldn't want to waste treated water on the lawn with the possibility of the salted water damageing the grass. The sales person said that a shutout valve would have to be installed and that everytime I wanted to water the lawn I would have to manually turn the by-pass. Seems to me there has to be a better way, as I cannot always do that when I am not there and have the sprinkler going on through out the day. Can you please give me your thoughts.

Your installer is simply lazy to change some of the existing pipe work perhaps because the easiest installation site is after the outside tap but before the inside main. Tradespeople always look for the cheapest installation route but they only pass on the cost savings to themselves so get another installer. The best installer would be oneself ;-)
