It's a shame that you installed a quality drop ear fitting with cheap drywall screws. A quality epoxy coated deck screw would be a much better choice in this application. Of course, the best choice would be stainless.

What's your reasoning for this? What is going to happen to the drywall screw and more importantly, why?
