Summary: Roof cleaning is a task many have to do because moss,
lichens and algae can grow on shingles and other roofing materials.
Cleaning roof shingles with a pressure washer is possible. Roof shingle
cleaning needs to be done carefully with constant inspection to ensure
the shingles are not being damaged. I tested a powerful pressure washer
on my twenty-year-old roof and was able to clean it without any damage
to the shingles.

I will be roofing over my existing 3-tab asphalt shingle roof this summer.
Manufacturing instructions(GAF/ELK) indicated that the roof must be
properly cleaned prior to preforming the re-roof. What do you recommend?
More specifically I have only a couple spots or best described as green
clumps on the roof. How can I clean these?

Rob,
There are any number of ways to remove it. Are you sure you want to go over
the old shingles????

My roof is discolored on the Northwest side so thank you for identifying
the problem. However, the pitch of my roof is pretty steep and I do not
wish to do the work myself. It's easily a 30 foot drop....no thank you.
What is a reasonable price for an experienced roofer/ contractor to perform
the work? Thank you again.
