Pocket Door Hardware Manufacturers
There are five players that I know of in the pocket door
hardware business. That is what it really is after all - the hardware. You can
use just about any door in a pocket door system. It is the frame, track and
suspension that really matters in a pocket door - not the door
itself.
I have personally installed many pocket doors. Early in
my career, I used the inferior frames that had no steel supports or strengthening
ribs in the frame. The result was a disaster. As the frame warped, the door
rubbed as it went in and out of the pocket. I finally began to use the frame and
hardware made by the L.E. Johnson Company. Once I switched to this system, I
never had another problem.
When you begin to shop for a pocket door frame and
hardware set here are the things you should look for. The more of these features
you get with your system, the better it will perform.
-
Look for a removable and a jump proof track. This is
standard on many models.
-
Make sure the frame will support a 125 lb. minimum door.
Can the door frame support a heavier door?
-
Are the frame uprights encased in steel? Are these rust
protected?
-
Are the wheels one inch nylon?
-
Can you adjust the door without removing the casing?
-
Are the hangers three wheeled and self leveling
?
What? Too many things to ask? I will make it easy for
you. It just so happens that the L.E. Johnson Company has all of the above
features. Lawrence Hardware happens to come in #2. If I were you, I would simply
contact all of the manufacturers below and see how they handle your request for
information. Perhaps that will help you in making your decision.

Hi,
Would you know where my best odds would be of purchasing a hardware trip
kit that has been discontinued by Stanely/National? I already have this
installed and the hardware/bearings/wheels broke.
The part is N190-801 -- the link is
http://www.natman.com/prodinfo_itemdetail.asp?cat=10&sub=44&prod=305&catalo

Thank you!

In response to John Hartnett's letter asking where to find and purchase
Pocket Door Trim Kit #N190-801 from National/Stanley, the answer from the
manufacturer is you can't!!
Repeated efforts via the phone and internet directly to both National and
Stanley's customer service and marketing yielded NOTHING.
Apparently, National/Stanley is perfectly content to no longer support this
existing product line currently in use in so many homes and businesses.
Because of this, I advise my customers to stay away from these manufactures
and use the reputable manufactures that Tim Carter listed above. That way
you won't have to tear apart your trim and walls to replace this hardware
when it breaks or becomes obsolete (or unsupported by the manufacturer in
the case of National/Stanley).

I just found the trim hardware at www.fingerlelumber.com, part # 882PRT.
They listed for $11.39 a kit. I just placed an order, hopefully they are
not out of stock.

I'm looking to install a pocket door as entry way from garage to mud room
and would like to eliminate as much draft as would be possible.
Are there any examples of (new construction) a doorway where teh base is a
inch or so below the floor. I'm working with concrete slab so I have good
control over the exact placement of the panel and can be assured that there
won't be any shifting.
I can imagine this would complicate the encased portion of the frame but
making this sort of thing work would be worth the extra hoops that might be
required.
thx

Steve,
If you want to see this, go to a large retailer that has sliding doors.
Study how they are weatherstripped.

I'm also looking for National part #N190-801.
I couldn't find it at that website.
John, did you have any luck when you ordered it?
Anyone have any suggestions?

I have an interior pocket door that is between a hallway and my mud room.
In winter it blasts cold air from the pocket, and in the summer, the whole
area is hot. There is a crawl space above the mud room. Is there some way
to insulate the door and still be able to open and close it? When it gets
really bad, the only solution I have found is to tape it off. Any
suggestions, or a website where I can buy the proper supplies?

Hi..
We would like to know where we can find a double pocket door track for 2
hollow core doors. The 2 doors would be beside each other in the wall. One
door would be pulled to the left to cover a kitchen entrance and the other
door would pull to the right to cover a stair entrance.I would like to be
able to easily remove the doors for painting.
Do you know where I can buy track like this?
Thanks...

Need help.
Few months ago, I bought a pocket door frame and hardware set from
homedepot manufactured by Everbilt. There were some parts missing in the
box and unfortunately, I have lost my reciept. I was wondering if anybody
knows any way to contact the manufacturer (website, phone anything). I
have searched the web but cannot find any info.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
Mehul
