installation of 18 or 24 inch square one inch thick slate? It seems so to
me. Help?

$20/ft is pretty high. You should be able to get that done for half that
price.

Max,
You should pay the average of three bids produced by different
professionals who are bidding the exact same job.

$20.00 sq. ft. is very resonable considering that Owens Corning "Pro-Fit"
is 7.50 sq ft for just materials. Then you have felt paper, wire mesh and
mortar. Pro-Fit is the easiest to install so the rates go up from there.
The 7.50 to 14.00 figure in the article seem to be bogus....atleast in my
area.

I bought some owens corning cultered stone and when I laid it all out on a
9' long table I was lucky to get 6-1/2'to7' with a 1/2 mortar joint.
They say you get 8 lineal feet in a box of corners stacked up on top each
other including the joint.
1 box costs 90+ bucks, I feel like I was burned big time here.
Ive been laying quarry stone and fieldstone half my life and thought Id
try this out, what a joke!
3/4 full box's, busted up and scratched isn't worth the price if you ask
me.
And the good thing for the sellers is, you cant return it. Nice deal,
eh?

I was interested in covering my fire place with eldorado cultured stone and
my question is how does this brand stone compare with owens corning brand?
Also I wanted to use a stacked stone design with no motor seam, I live in
the north east and I was worring about the freeze and thaw climate that we
have if that will cause me a problem. I plan on doing the facade of my fire
place and it will be exposed to snow and ice in the winter months. Do you
have any opions or tips about this.
Thank You for your input.
