Window Cleaning Tools Video

VIDEO SUMMARY

Using the wrong tools or cleaner will make your job harder. Using newspaper is not a good alternative. The water in the cleaner will dissolve the newsprint ink and leave that residue on the window. All you need to professional results is the right cleaner solution, lambs wool cleaner (or scrubber) and a squeegee. The squeegee is used to remove the excess moisture from the window. The window will be clean before the squeegee is used.

Mix the cleaner solution and dip the lambs wool cleaner into the solution. Wipe off the excess solution and start cleaning the window. Go over the window up and down and back and forth. All the dirt will be trapped in the lambs wool. Then use the squeegee to remove the excess moisture off the glass. Wipe the squeegee blade after each pass on the window.

These tools are available at your local paint store. There is also a two in one tool with the scrubber and squeegee on one head. This has a spot to attach it to a long pole for cleaning those second story windows.

I watched your video on cleaning windows, does the same technique and tools apply for exterior windows, especially dirty ones with the lambs wool cleaniner?

Jeff-

This is a great demonstration video. The answer to your question is yes. If your outside windows are extra dirty with hard to remove debris like dirt, bug spots, etc. you can purchase a scrubber that has fine scrubbing bristles interwoven in the fabric for that extra scrubbing power. I prefer the “Porcupine” made by Ettore.

You can also use a professional window scraper to remove very stubborn debris such as paint, light hard water deposits and so on. Just remember to use caution when scraping glass and never use anything but a professional window scraper to avoid scratches. (This tool can be purchased at most janitorial supply shops) Also, NEVER SCRAPE TEMPERD WINDOWS they are very susceptible to scratching. Any window regardless should always be tested first. Wet a small corner of the window with your window cleaning solution and scrape. Then, dry and closely examine it for any signs of scratching. If no scratches, continue with the rest of the window. Use small strokes; scrape with a front plow motion. After each pass lift, don’t drag the scraper back across the glass as it could trap sharp or hard debris under the blade causing scratches. Just remember never to scrape a dry window, always wet it first with your cleaning solution.

Hope that helps,
Ray
