Q&A /

March 31, 2015 AsktheBuilder Newsletter

Today is my youngest's birthday. Kelly turns 23 today. I just finished making a special breakfast for her.

I'm constantly amazed at how fast time flies. I look at photos of her when she was just a toddler and it seems like it was two months ago.

I remember the day she was born and had to be rushed to the Intensive Care unit for half a day. I cried like a baby terrified she wouldn't make it.

The past few months she's been helping me with some projects around the house. It's been a blast working with her. She's very hardworking, and I'm really proud of her latest project where she's teaching herself Javascript.

The most recent one is a fairly large job of drywall patching in our basement. Next up is a very cool remodel of a basement bathroom. I'm going to produce quite a few videos about that job!

Kathy's making a special ravioli dinner and of course a special cake for the party tonight.

Happy Birthday Kelly!?

My New Roof

Last week I shared that I'm installing a new roof on my home.

You may have been one that urged me to be careful. Thanks for those kind wishes.

My announcement created a vast amount of interest.

You may be one of the many that emailed me wanting to know why I didn't say what product Kathy and I were going to use. You can see our roof in the photo below.

Well, to be honest, we hadn't made up our minds.

We were struggling with several things, among them the premature failure of our *expensive* asphalt shingle roof.

We then got cold feet about using asphalt shingles because I reached out to all the major asphalt shingle companies for information, and for the most part all I heard were crickets.

I found that to be very troubling, especially since I'm a member of the working media.

What does it tell you when an asphalt roofing company won't talk to a member of the media?

The public relations representative for a roofing product company emailed me within moments of receiving my newsletter last week asking me, "So Tim ... what kind of roof are you putting on your home????"

I told her the truth about how I was undecided and she suggested I look at her client's products.

So Kathy and I did and here's the journey we took.

I suggest you take a look at these three links and you'll see in just moments why we're going with this superb roofing material:

REMINDER

I'm taping an extensive series of videos about my roof project.

This DVD will demonstrate how to install asphalt shingles - should that's what you decide to use - as well as the material I'm using.

You'll discover WHERE MOST LEAK locations are and HOW TO STOP and PREVENT THEM.

The videos will be on a professionally produced DVD.

Only a FEW ARE LEFT at the Pre-Buy price of $24.95.

I PREDICT THE PRICE WILL GO UP TO THE $39.95 BY THE WEEKEND. BUY NOW AND SAVE.

My Drywall Project

I wanted to tape a few videos about the drywall project, but it just didn't happen. The reason is I was up 11 feet in the air and it's very, very hard to get a video done safely and one that would show what's going on.

I plan to tape a few updated videos in the upcoming bathroom remodel.

But for NOW, here's a brand new column I wrote where I share a bunch of SECRETS about the magic of getting great drywall finish results.
