Have wooden pergola made of treated lumber and painted requiring fixing stripped paint and repainting each year. Two yes ago, I scraped/sanded pergola, applied best primer and paint I could get from Sherwin Williams and yet paint has peeled in many areas. Is there anything I can do to reduce the problem? Also, the pergola was built with major cross beams, other perpendicular beams above that and a third set above that. Do I really need the top layer of beams - about 2 by 2? These make scraping and repainting very time-consuming.
